[rquoter]The Boston Celtics have targeted center Brad Miller(notes) to sign in free agency, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Miller and guard Ray Allen(notes) are expected to be the Celtics’ two top priorities in summer free agency following the retirement of Rasheed Wallace(notes) and a knee injury to Kendrick Perkins(notes). The Celtics have their mid-level exception available to sign Miller, 34, who has the versatility to play the power forward and center spots for them. Several contenders are expected to pursue him, but sources say that the chance to play for the defending Eastern Conference champions has significant appeal to Miller. The departure of Wallace clears $13 million off Boston’s books over the next two seasons and leaves Boston with a gaping hole on its backline. Perkins suffered a torn MCL and PCL in Game 6 of the NBA Finals and faces a lengthy rehabilitation process. Despite durability issues during his career, Miller played 82 games for the Chicago Bulls in 2009-10 and could give the Celtics a rugged persona with an inside-outside offensive game.[/rquoter] http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=ApwNvnNUIZdgEE4fVs4Vqim8vLYF?slug=aw-bradmiller062710
Nice find! That's a great spot for Brad Miller to land, especially with Wallace retiring and Perkins coming off surgery. Seems like he would fit in well with that team. I want the Rockets to sign Miller, but the Celtics are pretty good competition for his services. That said, if Lebron goes to Chicago, resigning with the Bulls is a decent spot as well.
If Lebron goes to Chicago, it likely means that another max guy is as well. That means that the Bulls will need to renounce Miller's rights. He would then only be able to re-sign in Chicago for the veteran's minimum. Meanwhile, Boston, Houston and others can offer him most/all of the MLE. I'm guessing he'd rather take the money.
