Not with these piece of sh*t news again about a washed up guy that cant shoot. Can you guys please stop ughhh.
bballholic about to explode. Wolves are looking for a guard? I would trade Delly +Henson for Rubio + whatever expiring. I don't think Sacramento can offer much better.
Once he gets traded, we'll finally see him sent to the bench, when playing for a team who didn't draft him so doesn't feel the need to prop him up to their fans. He really isn't better than Rafer Alston. Alston is better defender, dribbler and shooter and finisher and Rubio has better passing instincts but can't really utilize since defenses don't guard him. Put it all together, and Alston is better. I'm tired of comparisons of Rubio to the best passers ever ... it means squat if defenses don't guard you. There's great passers in NCAA and Europe every year who can't make it in the NBA. Rubio will be lucky like Alston to latch onto championship teams and carve a role-player role for himself.
He's really not as bad as people say he is. The offense 80% of the time this year doesn't even run through him and he's still 5th in the league in assists. Yeah he can't shoot worth crap but he's above average in every other aspect. And regarding the shooting, at least he knows that's his weakness and a lot of times takes less than 5 shots a game. There's a reason his +/- has been the best on the team by a wide margin ever since he started with the T-Wolves. I'm not saying he's a top 10 or even top 15 PG in today's NBA but people make it seem like he's the worst player in the league. I think he can be a productive player either as a starter or bench player on a more experienced team that needs playmaking and plays better team defense. Definitely doesn't fit with the Rockets because of our 3 point shooting but maybe another team like the Bucks, Grizzlies, or the Jazz. Oh and if Minnesota does trade him they are definitely going to be worse than they already are. People can blame Rubio all they want but a key reason they are struggling is because of Andrew Wiggins who offers nothing but volume scoring (and this is coming from someone who really liked Wiggins but Jabari has proven to be a more efficient and productive player). And for all Rubio's flaws I don't believe Kris Dunn will ever be as good as even him.
Why would you want a player who can't shoot in a league that values shooting more and more every year?
What if he drives to the basket more in PnR situations? Wouldn't he do that more in our system than what he is doing in Minn? Looks like up there, they don't run a lot of PnR where he can attack the rim and draw defenders and then make passes off that. They set a screen but he doesn't have a path to get into the paint so his defender just lags off him. I'm just asking questions. I mean you have to admit the kid has some PG talent as far as ball handling, passing, and defending his position decently. I'm just imagining him with our 2nd unit, getting screens from Trez or Nene and driving to the paint and passing it to Gordon and/or Ariza, Anderson, or the big rolling to the rim with him. Seems like he doesn't have those options in Minn. Our philosophy is 3s, layups, and FTs. Could he do 2 of the 3 pretty well?
I think Philly is the best fit. They get a vet under contract for a few years. Someone who can feed the post and their bevy of frontcourt players. The ability to inbound to the post is important to the growth of a young center like embiids production. They would probably be able to pull it off for Rodriguez/2nd. So Minny gets a 2nd and sheds the contract. While Philly gets a "big name player". They have a million 2nds thanks to hinkie so they could afford the gamble. And he could help shore up the locker room and become a leader.
Last night you seen the real Rubio. Run the break, draw fouls, knock down free throws and dish. Give him the ball and put him in the pick and roll and he'll foul out the opponents bigs. Minny is showcasing him finally. Just giving him the ball and letting him run pick and roll. As you can see from this video he's such a good playmaker it simply does not matter either they go under the screen. He'll take up the space, compress the defenders and go ahead and make a play or draw the foul. This is classic Rubio. Put the ball in his hands, run pick and roll, surround him with three shooters and he's a genius. Check out his ftr. Once again, you'd better hope the Spurs don't trade for him. If they do, he will bite us in the behind soooooo bad.
I doubt Philly wants him playing off the ball next to Ben Simmons. With Embiid and Simmons, they don't need another "big name player" (if that's what you think Rubio represents).
Player development of other young players that share the court with him (shooters will get the ball at the right spots, young bigs will get good entry passes etc help with instructing teammates in team Defence). and running the offence in teams where it gets stagnated due to few creators(i.e Utah). I think that it would better serve Minny to keep him to help LaVine and Towns but whatever. You can't imagine how much a bad tunnelvision or selfish playmaker can stall or hinder the development of others.
Minny has been waiting for him (and giving him every opportunity) to prop up his trade value all stinking season... Literally the day after he scores his season high (the only time this season he has broken 20 pts) reports of "WHO WANTS RICKY?!?" He is a guard. He has averaged 1.6 attempts from 3 per game in January. He is shooting 7.1%... That's not a typo... 7.1%... The rockets lead the league in 3pt attempts. Ricky Rubio will not be a rocket. (BTW... I PRAY the Spurs trade for him. They won't, but I hope that they do)...
In this case, the player Minny gets in return is particularly crucial. They need a savvy, veteran floor leader. Doesn't have to be a very talented guy, just someone who can run a half-court NBA offense and keep guys in line. Otherwise, the T-Wolves offense will collapse because Thibs is clueless.
