in this hypothetical, MLE for looney, the DocRocket trade, we would still have the BAE to add a stretch 4/5 for depth. i think hayward will return to his old form the way PG did. we'd have paul-harden-hayward-tucker-looney with a bench rotation of rivers-house-BAE

While I see why you do not like this deal, Hayward did not look very good this year. We are getting something for Gordon who was likely gone next year and I am not sure if Houston is as high on Capela as this group is.

for reference if we sign him to more than $13.2M his contract would be BYC and complicate a trade.

so lets assume he is kept at that number or less on a 1 year deal.

Seems unlikely now that Celtics have signed Kanter, no need for two starting caliber centers.

you think with rivers signing the minimum that opens the door more for a CP trade next year and/or gordon trade?

now we should talk to his dad and see if he can sent sweet Lou back to help his son win a championship ring next year.

**** dude I really wanted to hate this guy too when we got him. All the secret tunnel dust ups when he was a Clipper, but you know what? Dude has grown on me, and now I like what he brings as a player and overall stand up guy. Money is great and a necessity no doubt, but just being in a good place mentally, physically and spiritually will always be more gratifying.

If we traded D'Antoni for Doc Rivers would the Rockets be more of a threat?

I think any on the list would make our rotation. Hollis is interesting because he is a very good defender, just cannot shoot 3's yet.

Good. Rivers was big for us in the playoffs this past year, especially in the Utah series where his +/- was quietly off the charts compared to the rest of the team. He was also not available for Game 1 against the Warriors, and I think that was a huge detriment to the team starting that series off right.

Maybe most telling is how many minutes he DID play in the playoffs, particularly against Golden State. I was stunned and frequently appalled at how stubborn MDA was about running his starters into the ground while supergluing the bench in place. Even when nothing was working. There were two exceptions, though. Austin Rivers played a substantial number of minutes off the bench. And our starting center, Clint Capela, played roughly the same number of minutes as Rivers per game by the end, in complete contrast to the high minutes for the other starters. That should tell you a lot about these two guys.

Rivers worked his butt off and, against the odds, worked his butt off the bench and did a lot of good things for us last year. I'm glad to see that was recognized, and I'm glad he's back.
