With OKC getting Melo, are we even a top 4 seed in the West?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by swyyyguy, Sep 23, 2017.

?

Are we now the 4th seed or the 5th seed in the West?

  1. 4th seed, barely.

    73.0%
  2. 5th seed, no more home court advantage.

    27.0%

Difference is Melo was expected to be “National Team Melo” while with Harden/CP3/D’Antoni. Share the ball.

With OKC, will Melo/Westbrook coexist? Those 2 Alpha dogs may rip each other’s throats out.
Paul George just watching that tug-a-war. Risk getting bit?

too early to tell, OKC might not perform that well, i view melo as a competent starter now, rather than a star, his defense sucks too much for his offense to swallow

People, seriously. Trying to predict what the Rockets will do in a single game or even a single quarter, much less what they'll do in any entire season before it starts is like <insert whatever simile for difficulty predicting something that suits you>.

In the end, what will probably make more difference than anything, as usual, is if they play sufficient defense. Yes? More offensive opportunities. Less scoring by the other team. Paul is happy. No? Middling performance in playoffs again. Paul maybe leaves.

"Good D is the key" is about as general, yet accurate, a statement as you can make in sports. Everything else about our newest team is "wait and see."

I voted 4th seed barely, because 4th is the new 1st.

Well, I never would've predicted the season that we've seen so far.

I don't think most here realized how huge of an upgrade CP3 was over PBev, homerism at its finest. Also adding Tucker and Luc, Sam who?

I loved Bev. I think most of us did.

But even with that, I think everyone here realized how much of an upgrade CP3 was over Bev.... on their own. Looking at their individual talent and ability was never the question.
Bev was more in line with a 3 and D point guard. So the question was always how well will CP3, as another ball dominant player, be able to integrate with Harden?

That was a legitimate question, even without homerism. The league has never seen a situation like this with two of the best ballhandling, distributing point guards in the entire league on the same team at the same time.

Luckily that question has been answered with a far more resounding "they work together just fine" answer than I think any of us could have predicted.

I knew it would work because we’ve seen how much james wants to win last year. CP3 at age 32 wants to win too.
And it wasn’t like morey just made the deal without asking james, rather james lobbying for Chris. If 2 smart guys want to play together they usually have something in mind how it will work out.

I didn’t predict 1st seed but i knew we would be 2nd not too far behind the warriors. Obviously we exceeded expectations.

    @ CP3 upgrade over bev:

A lot of people here thought that it wasn’t a smart move because we gave up too much.
I knew it was a good move, anyway i was a little disappointed to see PatBev go because he was easily my fav. Rocket after james.

Melo would've been a net negative, taking 13+ shots a game on a lower efficiency than Harden or CP.

I'll take my chances without Melo. Get someone who can score efficiently with way less shots, and that's worth more than Melo at the moment.

OKC is completely screwed. Going to lose PG to FA or trade this season, and have to keep Melo for another season after this.

    Darrel Morrayy is a genius.

We will probably falter from this pace and the Warriors could regain #1 seed. But, yeah, we're in the top tier of contenders alongside the Warriors this year.
