Will Tilman continue to be cheap or pay the luxury tax to build around Harden and Westbrook?

Pretty sure, just click their avatar then click ignore. It's there but maybe the ignore function doesn't work.

Some people think you need to spend loads of money to make the team better.......you don't, you just need to make the right deals to get the best team put together.

Adding Westbrook did not increase the Payroll this year. His and CP3's salary are exactly the same this year. IT did add an extra year as well as an extra 47+ million to the payroll 4 years down the line, whether Westbrook will still be on the Rockets or what their cap situation will be like by then remains to be seen.

Not trying to speak for Carl, but I don't think he is asking if the Rockets will sign more vet minimum or exhibit 10 contracts, it's almost a certainty the Rockets will.

The question is, will the Rockets use shumpert OR expand the westbrook/cp3 trade to acquire additional players. Players such as Iggy, Crowder, JSimmons? etc... Doing so will require going over the tax line... but may also be the difference between getting over the top or not.

So do you think the Rockets will use shumpert/trade and go over the tax line to improve their team this season?

Thank you! I've got a post elsewhere in the GARM worrying about the same issue. Great minds...

If he was that stressed about the repeater, adding another year to the Chris Paul contract equation implies they're going to cost cut and not hit the tax this year too. Which means no RoCo. It means letting Shumpert go for nothing. It definitely means no OPJ. And it probably means not extending Gordon. It does mean more bargain shopping for minimums, and using NT-exemptions up to the tax line. Yay?

    Prove me wrong, Fertitta.

Which is what I was advocating last year, to go heavily into the tax, sign House using the MLE, among other things, and rob teams like Washington that were staring at repeater hell.

"But G_J! What about repeater tax?!"

Repeater tax penalties wouldn't kick in until the last year of Paul's deal. Trade his broke ass by the deadline of his last year. He'd be the mother of all expiring contracts, and God only knows who'd want that to extract FA du jour. But someone would. Assuming they didn't dump enough salary then, dump another deal or two---Harden would be in his early 30s, Morey'd probably be gone, and the Rockets would be in rebuild/tank mode. Presto! No more repeater escalators.

Now with WB's deal, and player option, that gets bumped out one more year. Anyone think Tilman will be any more willing to incur luxury tax repeater escalators then, than he would have been fearing because of Paul's deal?

    It's a legit concern.

And about putting butts in the lower bowl and suites.

Any guesses how much those rates will rise, with picking up "Another MVP!" "Come see 2 MVPs on the same team!"

Tickets are going to get stupid.
