It looks like Noel and Okafor are legit franchise level big men. If Embiid eventually recovers or even if he doesn't, some team will probably take a chance and trade for him. The 76ers will probably still have a top 3 to top 5 draft pick this year. They can go for a quality PG or perimeter player. Then they have more than enough cap space to go after star players. Even if it's a weak class, I would still think there may be enough impetus to stop losing given the reported tension within the organisation on he continues losing. Plus they need to resign players and start to build a culture of winning. I think drafting a good perimeter player, trading Embiid for solid veterans, and using up some of that cap space if a star level player becomes available, the 76ers may turn things around pretty quickly especially in the East.
well they will have 2 very high picks next draft. if they cant compete after that then they should fire their GM.
Young players usually don't win. And Hinkie's main tanking methodology is to not have a good PG and not have veteran players. That's how you lose in the league. So even with another two draft picks, adding veteran players around them is what will help to translate talent to wins.
i'm pretty sure philly will have the last laugh and be good for a very very long time. i just looked at all of the picks owed to philly ridiculous http://www.nbadraft.net/nba_draft_trades/2016 they are owed 8 2nd round picks in the next 3-4 seasons. and they have 4 1st round picks this year, which includes one of their own. and could end up with 3 top 10 picks this year if the GM wants to and the lakers end up with a pick around 5-8. so essentially that team could end up with 5-6 players picked in the top 5 of a draft. it would be pretty cool to be a fan of theirs right now.

it seems like they will have to trade up or trade some of these picks with players for a good PG or something. perhaps westbrook if durant leaves. something like that. how about pg westbrook sg ??? sf ben simmons pf noel C okafor or perhaps picks to the thunder, durant to the wizards and beal to philly. pg jamal murray sg bradly beal sf ben simmons pg noel c okafor a scenario something like this will play out, i don't see how philly won't be loaded one way or another. if somehow embiid works out also sheeesh
No. This won't be the last year of the tank. The plan is for 7 years. The plan started in 2013. It's yet to be seen if Saric will come over this year or the year after. (if he comes the year after he can demand MLE money and get rid of the rookie contract restrictions like Mirotic did. And Saric and his father who is his agen thave said many things one way and then do or say another way in his whole career. ) Also philly won't be able to sign any good FA because the money in the market is too much. Even good role players won't go over there if they have any other choice (which they will have this year and the year after). Furthermore Hinkie is going to extreme lengths to push the tank. The most recent example is Ish Smith. Ish Smith had developed a marvelous chemistry with their franchise guy Noel and fed him good baskets. Noel even said so publicly of what great pg he was. Fast forward this summer Hinkie refuses to sign him to a normal fully guaranteed contract and wants him only at the Hinkie special. Ish refuses and goes on unguaranteed money elsewhere. Noel is from the class of 2013. Next year he will need his extension which will be 25 millions per. (max). Hinkie has made some very questionable decisions in trades (KJ trade) and in drafting (his high second rounders this year). For all of his second rounders he has nothing to show anymore (either he drafted centers who he traded for other second rounders,or they refused the Hinkie special got cut and left the team). 3 of those draft picks will be late in the draft (Heat,Thunder , GSW) We will see how they are utilised. Boston tried to package multiple picks to go into the top 10 and much better quality picks and they were refused by 3 teams. Because no team wants 3 ROOKIES that aren't even high drafted. a first round pick represents a player. How good that player will be is yet to be determined. A first round pick looks all shiny and with no flaws and with the promise of unlimited superstar potential but in reality most of the time it ends up being just another player in the league. I have no envy of their fans and I have been in ther forum many times and most of them are near their limit with the "process" too. Also there is something that is called the LOSING ENVIRONMENT. Players don't learn to accountabillity. Players don't have other good vets to learn from how to act on and off the court either. No training staff in the world will be able to replace what an NBA player learns from his vets.
Problem with Philly is so what, they have a bunch of draft picks. They already have a team full of under 23 year olds. So basically, by having all of these picks coming up in the next few years, they also have to offer more opportunity too for playing time for those picks if they ever hope to develop anyone. So they draft 2 top 10 picks lets say, then what? They have to play those young players then for 2 years minimum before they start seeing any substantial progress. They'll suck for another two years. Maybe 2018 they start to see some moderate success and are able to go after free agents. But then maybe simultaneously, Noel and Okafor decide they want out of Philly ASAP and refuse to resign.
I think they're done now. I don't think we'll see any tank-ish trades midseason this year. They won't be good, but I expext hinkie is done trying to be bad.
