Do you guys think we can get a 3pt specialist on the cheap? I really think it would help when some of our guys are not hitting and we insist on just launching. A guy like Troy Daniels, Belinelli or Bayless who can get in for like 5-10 minutes and just park to get a few shots up and sit again. Seeing CJ Miles putting them up and only playing 16 MPG would be perfect, but that's too many minutes and too expensive type of player to get. I think it helps for some of these guys that they don't get enough minutes to hoist more than 5-10 threes up so their efficiency stays high.
if he didn't get a 4th guard while paul was out a month, i'm thinking maybe there's been a spending freeze imposed for the rest of this season
Does it really matter? Morey signed Troy Williams last season. The guy has shown a lot of potential/promise. But if Mike D'Antoni won't give him ample playing time, then any signing would relegate him to the bench by default.
Well, the Hard Cap is an official CBA Spending Freeze, after all. We are pretty close to the hard cap. If Morey has anything that he is nurturing which might require absorbing more salary, I'd bet he would indeed have a spending freeze on new incoming salary, which might otherwise prevent that trade. And he should up until the deadline.
aren't we roughly $9M below the hard cap though? i'd think more likely the lux tax threshold roughly $3M away is tillman's absolute no-go for morey
We could trade Chris Paul for a proven gunner in Lou Williams and a defensive PG in Patrick Beverley. Do you think the Clippers would go for it?
Until Paul joins the lineup and they see what kind of impact he's going to have on the team, I don't think Morey will be making any moves, nor should he. I agree that the team hasn't shot well from the 3-point line and could use another shooter. But Paul (41.1 percent last season) could end up being that shooter, and his playmaking may end up having a positive effect on the perimeter shooting of the rest of the team.
While I don't necessarily dislike this idea, let's wait another week or two after CP3 comes back and see how much it opens up the offense if we still need that or not
You're blaming things like not signing a 4th PG on Tilman? just to be clear, we don't even have exceptions left to cross that $3m line. A Vet min won't do it. It would take a salary-increasing trade. And if we cross that $3m line, then Morey loses the preferable salary-matching calculations. He's back to only being allowed 125% versus the 175% tier and $5m-increase tier. So, all I'm saying is that if Morey is eyeing a possible trade which might not work due to Hard Cap, he won't use money now on any Vet-minimum patches like the 4th guard you mentioned. Getting a 4th Guard was not a good example of Tilman having money problems. besides: Tilman has never said luxury tax is an "absolute no-go" anymore than Les did. Morey just has to make a strong case for it, and Morey actually hates going into tax territory or above the Apron, because of the flexibility restrictions they impose. He's self policing.
