I dont understand, if rockets keep Tmac, on the summer 2010, even rockets has more cap space than new york from my calculation. Did I miss something?

Rockets Current Payroll: 70.4m + rookies
    - 2.1m(Barry) - 1.1m(Brooks) - 3.5m(Cook) - 2.1m(Hayes) - 3m(Landry) - 2m(lowry) - 22.8m(Tmac) - 3.3m(Scola) - 0.8m(White)
    = 29.7m

    Knicks Current Payroll: 96.7m + David Lee(maybe)
    - 1.3m(Chandler) - 0.7m(joe Crawford) - 6m(Duhon) - 3.1m(Gallinari) - 10m(Harrington) - 13.7m(Hughes) - 0.7m(Hunter) - 7.5m(Milicic) - 9.5m(Mobley)
    =44.2m
Curry's contract is a player option, its unlikely for him not to pick up that.

Given that there are no stars in the league named Hugh, they are banking on having enough money to be able to sign 16 people named Hugh to minimum contracts in 2010! Therefore, people are saying the Knicks have "Hugh cap space."

    Happy to help.

They won't have enough capspace to sign two max players since 2010 capspace is estimated to be around 50-something mil. You know Curry's contract will go nowhere unless the grizzlies (nba trash bin) takes him.

I think they could get enough. Curry is hard to move but Jared Jefferies and his 7 mil isn't so hard. They can offer Jefferies + cash (3mil) + draft picks and someone would take that deal.

dragonz, the sum of a team's expiring contracts does not equal its cap room. The figure you are looking for is a function of what that particular year's salary cap is set at. For instance, the Rockets are currently WAYYY over the salary cap. Even if they dump all of their expiring contracts, they will not have THAT much cap room. Sure, they'll have a decent amount. But not nearly equal to the sum of the expiring contracts, let alone being equal even to T-Mac's expiring amount.

    Hope this helps.

P.S. I think the Knicks will throw everyone for a loop and sign Huey Lewis (of "and the News" fame).

Don't forget that Hefner still has game, and he's younger than Theo Ratliff!
