I've noticed this and last season Dwight Howard barley gets shots. He was 5-8 tonight why is that?. I'm asking because I haven't watched the games. Meanwhile harden is jacking up. 15+ shots. Obviously harden is good and should be but I noticed Dwight not scoring that much. Or attempting to.
1. Howard posts up and the Rockets have trouble getting him the ball. 2. Howard doesn't run any pick and roll where he could get easy shots 3. When Howard does get the ball in the post, he frequently is fouled, or turns the ball over.
Lakers:First Game was foul trouble and getting fouled every other time he made a Move Jazz: Ate em up Celtics: Passed out of a lot of double teams that came his way once he got the ball. Probably could have got the ball a little more Sixers: Noel Fronted, Then Sixers had a man waiting behind him. He was open quite a few times under the rim but Rockets dont have a player that really looks long enough inside.
Because Dwight getting a good entry pass, whilst in good position and not being double teamed is like an eclipse. He wants to post up and that's fine, but this isn't a post up league. He gets doubled off the ball, fronted, shoved, hacked, stripped or fumbles the ball. I recall one key play were Dwight spun off and found himself wide open for an alley-oop but Jones held off the pass, he then passed to Dwight with three guys on him leading to a steal. Noel played great, pesky D today and used his quickness and length well. Dwight seemed a little frustrated and lethargic to go with it. Luckily his rebounding was on point and his shot blocking was there too. Hopefully it all clicks as the season progresses.
Post-entry passes have been terrible. He also has to hit his free throws. Harden can shoot ten times from the floor and still score 25. Howard could do the same if he just connected on 70 percent of his fts.
Just got back from the game and this is a very good assessment of Dwight's performance and how the Sixers were playing him. There were several times that he was literally being sandwiched between Noel and another defender and he seemed frustrated because he was not getting the ball where he wanted it and the refs just weren't giving him any calls on the offensive end. However, he was also very sloppy with his ball handling and passing, which was troubling to see, he did manage to stay out of foul trouble for the bulk of the game and defensively he did a nice job, and he rebounded well. There was one exchange between him and McHale where Howard was very clearly pissed off and pretty much blew mcHale off as he was trying to speak to him. Not sure what that was about though.... The Sixers are a very young but athletic team that will probably be a very good team at some point in the future, but it was troubling to see the Rockets get up by 13 2x and give away the lead once and almost do it the second time. They were very sloppy w/ t/o's tonight and lazy play at times, plus they got very little off the bench on the O end, other than from Terry. Dmo had a great night rebounding but otherwise was useless on Off, plays so soft, and T J didn't have his best night tonight either. Harden and Ariza were killer and Canan had some timely big shots
Part of it is that it seems like everyone on this team is inept at getting him the ball He can be wide open in the paints, hands out yelling for the ball and our guys don't see it or not confident enough to make the pass. Our lob passes to Dwight have been everywhere this season, much less the entry passes. But Dwight is also at fault too. He hasn't been doing a good job at keeping his man sealed when he has post position. For example, tonight I lose count at how many times Noel was able to get around Dwight to disrupt the passing lane when Dwight initially sealed him for the post pass. Dwight hasn't made himself a good target. Also, he is taking way too long on his post moves. In the playoffs, he was catching the ball and going to his move right away. Right now, he is catching the ball, holding it, starts backing down his man, one dribble, two dribble, three dribbles then starts to make his move. And when he makes his moves, it's rarely fast or a power move. It's usually a lefty hook; not very aggressive. Overall, it's taking us too long to get him the ball and too long for him to make a move which leads to rushed possessions and turnovers.
these players can not even make an entry pass into him. Did you see Tjones attempt it for almost 20 seconds in the 2q and turn it over? They should have a clinic with Dream how to do it. Or howard should just verbally tell his team mates how he wants the pass. It can't be that hard.
