I'm just tired of peoples keep mentioning that Donald Sterling had been banned for his racialism speech. Compared to Silver choose to support Morey's right to express, the difference is when we talk about racialism, it should be a world wide issue but not just in US. The protests in HK is just a problem for Chinese government or to Chinese, but respecting human rights is a world wide common sense. So as a organization try to improve its global influence, the NBA certainly know which has higher priority and I'm pleased to see they made a correct choice.

The Chinese government used to ban some famous person like Madonna, Jane Birkin for their supporting the 14th Dalai Lama who is the Tibet current religion leader, cause these people are considered to support the independence of the Tibet and the government would not like mentioning that they refuse any formal meeting with Dalai Lama to discuss the future of Tibet. They used their influence to forbid the Taiwan Red Cross from participating the International Red Cross annual meeting only because they don't want any sign indicates that Taiwan has its global position. And this time is the turn of Hong Kong.

Looks familiar, right? Now you should start wondering why all these **** always happen in China. Who else knows what excuse they will use to against whom next time? Do you guys still think making apologizes would be enough to Chinese government? The Chinese government currently said that they are tough but not threatening. They should know that been threaten is a feeling comes from others and not just a words defined by them.

    1. The government and some segment of basketball fans are calling for Morey to be fired. Most Chinese people don't even know about this except on the peripherals because Morey is not a household name.

    2. Your original argument is that Chinese people all call black people racists therefore screw them. If you want to move the goalpost to whether the government's handling of the HK protest is right or wrong, that's something else.

    3. I feel like you've never truly felt racism in your life because if you did, you wouldn't say stuff like Ughyus calling you a b**** wouldn't affect how you feel about them. I have relatives who are from Hong Kong. I know people who work there. And it deeply hurt me that I can't get a response from a city worker speaking Chinese to them because they think I'm a second class citizen due to the country they thought I am from. If you ever experienced that level of disdain in your life for just being who you are, you may understand things a bit better and not be on this moral high horse nearly as much.

Video starts out talking about 'bottom line'. (didnt' bother watching all of it. Heard enough)

We ALL know the 'bottom line' here = M-O-N-E-Y

China is trying to act like they control EVERYONE and EVERYTHING.
They are used to controlling everyone and being the bully.
If they want to enjoy sports and products of a free society and culture, then THEY
need to get a grip on interacting with a free society. It's the ability to speak your mind without being thrown in prison.
One simple Tweet by an American citizen should not start WW3. Get over it.

    FREEDOM > money

China can go back to their major sports - table tennis and badminton
In return, I'm giving up Chow Mein and General Tsao Chicken

WE SUPPORT YOU DARYL AND WE SUPPORT FREEDOM

    1) Good.

    2) No my argument is that if the Chinese "who keep to themselves" want to not only commit attrocities in their soil, but also enforce their way of thinking and take away our right of freedom of speech then they should first issue a formal apology by the CCP for crossing OUR bottomline.
You can give but you can't take it?
Or the CCP has the delusion that they can do nothing wrong and they can never apologise to foreigners?

    3) Oh I can say because I value human lives above all else.

There is no amount of verbal abuse that can make me support a second Holocaust..

And who said I don't feel disdain? When I joined the forum here there were myriad of posters who basically told me "shut up you bankrupt idiot".

Japan: Dear world, now you know how we've felt for the past three thousand years. Have the touchiest neighbors in world history, my God it's been so annoying!

Seriously though. My mom's from Taiwan, I've spent extensive time in Hong Kong (which I used to consider the best city on earth) and mainland China.

Talking about Taiwanese and Hongkonger sovereignty is not equivalent to the n-word. These are people of Chinese descent trying to govern themselves!

Mainland Chinese people, if they want to lap up the propaganda their government is feeding them, are free to banish the NBA from their eyes and their hearts. Get off our message board in the process, by the way.

Yeah, here's the thing: I don't give a F that it's a line in your country, just like I don't give a F about such lines in China or in my country.

Saying anything is ok as long as you're ready for the repercussions. If you're willing to get fired, have at it. I choose not to be racist or say racist things because I don't like it. It has nothing to do with rules. I don't come from a country with a historically significant slavery history. I can say racist things if I want. I don't want to say them at all and no one has to tell me. In fact, if people weren't allowed to have free speech, I doubt I ever would have learned the principles of free speech in the places I grew up. I draw my own lines based on what I learn.

Morey can say what he wants. China can do what it wants with its money. The NBA can respond however they like. The only thing that's sacred here is you don't get to decide what I say if no one's freedom is lost by me saying it. Morey did not separate HK. He made a statement. That's all.

What you're describing in your post is why it's understandable that some Chinese people would be upset by it. I understand why they're upset, and I commiserate with them. Morey still gets to say whatever he wants. He risked his own career, it's his to piss away if he wants.

If you believe that verbal abuse is bad, then you shouldn't verbally abuse people you have never met nor understand simply because someone posted an youtube video somewhere. You can support Hong Kong without throwing every Chinese person under the bus.

From a country that has recently admitted to mass organ harvesting (allegedly ended in 2015), I feel China may be a tad overdramatic specifically in this situation.
I get it. What he said may be highly offensive in their culture but honestly, give me a break. Their gov’t should know our culture and realize Morey, a non-political figure, meant no malicious intent and was merely supporting, via social media, what he believes and supports. He is not a US government official which of whom are held to higher standards and are more deliberate + detailed when communicating through social media (Trump excluded).
Celebrity or not, support of beliefs through social media outlets is widespread in US culture. China officials should’ve realized this and taken the foot off the pedal. Instead they attempt to strong-arm us by using money to silence free speech. If China is trying to regulate the free speech of an NBA GM, where does it stop?

Didn't want to be petty but they are not neighbors technically. Separated by the sea.

How many times do I have to say this?

The government and the people of China are not the same. People should be allowed to speak good OR bad about any government or political issue.

It is insane to imagine that government of China should be excluded from being criticized just because it has monetary hegemony.

Again, I never had positive views about the Chinese government. They execute more people than any other country, even per capita. People should legitimately fight against what the Chinese government stands for...

But Jackie Chan would not say things like that though, he's too smart and respect of another culture as all Chinese do. They would leave other's people business alone. This is why the Chinese view that supporting HK is supporting interference with the sovereignty of the state or getting into their business. Why not leave them alone? Ya'll know you don't give a damm about the Chinese people, why stick your nose into HK? Oh wait, that's right, you want to instill democracy there so you can influence the Chinese government. If you don't respect their way of life, who's to say that they should respect yours? It's not a one-way street.

I always thought freedom is good and it is, but TOO MUCH freedom can be harmful. This is similar to teaching a child growing up. Some parents like to discipline them so they can keep them in line and others like to give them as much freedom as possible (even spoil them). China is like the discipline parents and America is like parents that allow freedom. Both child grow up, one is a spoil brat full of confident and arrogant, another is reserve, quiet and respect each others. Now you know why there is a difference in culture's behaviors? LOL this should be a lesson for all the westerners.

If you want petty, ask old Chinese people what they think about the Japanese. 2000+ years of back and forth warfare will do that to two "neighboring" countries.

Sovereignty is made up anyway, the lines we draw as a country were not there forever, we did them ourselves.....the lines of nations are bull crap.

Getting butt hurt over some made up lines on a map .......when there are much more important things is frankly stupid.

Y'all need better jokes. There's nothing actually funny about that. Even if you try to imagine yourself a racist, that's barely getting a smirk. So it's a simpleton joke.

    Offensive mutha--

I would have liked your post but for the first sentence.

Let's not even begin to describe the attrocities commited by Japan over millenia. Attrocities they are completely unapologetic about.

Even heard of the comfort women?
