IMO, the best non superstar caliber player we ever signed as a franchise was Mario Elie. He brought defense, 3 pt shooting, ran the floor and was a team player. Any other opnions?
World B. Free, but only because of his name. By the time we signed him, his career was in its twilight. Maybe Purvis Short.
When's the last time we even signed a superstar (that we didn't draft)? Rick Barry's the only guy that comes to mind for me. And he was great his last year in Golden State, but didn't do all that much here. Chuck, Clyde, Pippen, Moses, Elvin (in his second stint), T-Mac... All of those guys were traded here.
Mario Ellie and Otis Thorpe came to my mind as well. Kevin Willis was ok, but I can't remember if he was a trade or not. As far as value for the money, and doing more than was expected(which still wasn't all that much) would be Charles Jones.
If you dismiss all the players who were drafted or for whom we traded, then there really aren't very many eligible candidates, i.e. free agent signings.
I might as well bring it up... Otis Thorpe was also acquired via trade. We traded away Rodney to get him.
IIRC, Barry was some kind of sign and trade. The Rockets and Warriors couldn't reach an agreement though and the league assigned Lucas to the Warriors in the trade agreement--- something like that. I was pissed.
