I thought this would be an interesting topic to discuss. Patrick Ewing in my opinion has not taught Dwight Howard as much as people imply. Either that or Dwight is a very slow learner.

I know for a fact that Deke has also helped out Yao especially on the defensive end. Over the years, who would you honestly think has helped out Yao more? Patrick Ewing or Mutombo?

I think Yao's improved footwork would suggest Dream has helped him (who knows?) but Ewing I would guess had a greater influence although I agree that Yao has been swatting the crap outta several shots the last season and I'm sure Deke has had a strong influence there.

Anyone notice that when Deke was in the game for the Rockets that the opposition had ONE shot and if it didn't go in Deke almost always grabbed the rebound and threw the outlet pass to a teammate? Deke's consistent rebounding made it one and done for the opposition, and I honestly thing his rebounding during the past few years with the Rocks was his best contribution. His rebounds per minute stat must be off the charts

You should have Tom Thibs as part of this poll. He was on Yao constantly to get better, my vote goes to him.

When Yao came in he didn't have the low post move. He was a jump shooter. Ithink Ewing helped Yao a lot on that.

I don't think I or anyone on this board have a good vantage point to tell.

How in the hell would we know? Only Yao can answer that question. And where is the option for Dream?

Deke helped Yao become a better defender, and a better leader for this team.

Ewing helped Yao become a better offensive player.

You gotta remember, it was under JVG/Ewing that Yao averaged 25 and 9.

Do you think the Rockets could sign Deke as an assistant coach? Not to mention, he can be the team's biggest cheerleader.

    Exactly.

This poll is nothing more than a popularity contest.

Most have never liked Ewing, while Deke is revered.

I could never stand seeing Ewing on the side lines. Don't no way he could have taught him except how to make ugly faces.

Always wanted to see "The Dream" on the side showing Yao some moves, but Deke was great too.
