The insane amount of money for stupidity. I was looking at some sneakers online, just browsing and I come across these YEEZY BOOST 350 'PIRATE BLACK' for $1,800.
I wasn't looking at these idiot shoes to buy, they are just what happened to show up.

Do people actually do this? It's insane.

why does it even bother you? it's just like any other "expensive" hobby any other person may have. If they can afford it and that's what they're into so what.

    We sure do.

Who exactly are the (worldwide) 1%? The surprising answer: if you’re an American, you don’t have to even be close to being uber-rich to make the list.

According to the Global Rich List, a website that brings awareness to worldwide income disparities, an income of $32,400 a year will allow you to make the cut.

Anyway, that's a great price on those Yeezys, breh. Buy two pairs while you can.

Here is a small list off the top of my head on things that people often spend $2,000 on that may be thought of as "over priced" to some people and "worth it" to others.

    In no particular order:

    • Ungraded, but fine condition Incredible Hulk 181, first full appearance of Wolverine
    • A designer purse
    • Certain 75" TVs
    • A gaming PC
    • An Hermes Wallet
    • Some nice Rockets Tickets
    • A 1951 PSA grade 1 Bowman Mickey Mantle
    • A set of Damascus kitchen knives
    • A fine suit
    • A rug
    • A nice, small portrait by early 20th century French painter Constant Le Breton (Framed)
    • A set of First edition (Second printing) of The Lord of the Rings with fine white dust jackets
    • Some diamond jewelry
    • Custom John Lobb shoes
    • A fine, high end Beretta shot gun
    • First class airline tickets from New York to LA
My point being: different things float peoples' boats.

At the end of the day, the only way to gauge if it's "overpriced" to someone is how much money they have to blow.

It's like the story of Jay Z spending 100k on bottles one night at the club. Seems like a ridiculous way to blow 100k, but in comparison to his yearly income(40 mills), it's the equivalent of somebody who makes 40k a year spending 100 dollars, which is both hilarious and sad.

Oops guess it's the equivalent to someone who makes 40k a year spending 100 dollars, not 10. Fixed the post, thanks.

Your math was only somewhat off... because Jay's worth is closer to 400mil than 40. Google says 900mil, so the nightclub splurge equals about $5 to most people.

Damn. He's been getting his hustle on like a mofo.

I'm not talking about his net worth, I meant his yearly income, Jay Z reportedly made 42 million in 2017. I'm sure his income fluctuates greatly year to year though, but yea the point should all be the same for this topic.

Things like Yeezys are only stupid purchases if you can't afford them. If you can afford them, and you enjoy shoes, what's wrong with it? OP likely just views it as poor value for the purpose they serve, but they serve a greater purpose then shoes at that point, it morphs into fashion/art/status-symbol etc.

A poster recently mentioned, "if you can't afford two, you can't afford one." This is an awesome rule for budgeting and spending money.
