Everyone talks about stars but I think role players deserve equal credit. Questions is, I wouldn't even know where to start if I had to make a top 10 list. I just know Robert Horry should be in there somewhere for his clutch service and having 7 rings. :D

Can you really call them role players if they have been to all star games?

In terms of talent, I'd say Tiny Archibald and Dennis Johnson deserve mention, as they were great players who were still great when they were asked to be role players. Bill Walton would fit in that category too except he broke himself after one year with the Celtics.

I would also say that Byron Scott, Norm Nixon, and Andrew Toney were great role players on the 80's Lakers/Sixers.

One could argue that every member of the 1960's Celtics was a role player because that's how Auerbach coached his teams; have each player focus on a role and play it to his fullest.

If one doesn't consider Chet Walker a star player, then he definitely deserves to be in the mix.

What's the difference between a great role player and a star? Is it possible to be both?

Good call with Detlef. But, why did you have to type that horrible excuse for an NBA player known as Horn---I can't even type the rest of the name with out getting agitated. :p

First, you're not really a role player unless you're part of a winning team.

    Rodman's definitely a role player.

    Horry

    Battier

    Kurt Rambis

    Bobby Jones

    Vinnie Johnson
