Apparently that's what it came down to when pulling the trigger. For poll purposes, Chicago's 2005/2006 2nd rounders (or late 2004 1st rounder) can be attributed to the trade exception, which I'm sure will please many when it's used.

All in all, it seemed like a unique one-time window of opportunity where a lot of teams are now at or over their spending limits, while free agents are uninterested in going to teams that aren't (ie Utah).

ps If this post doesn't have a poll, I didn't do this right. Are non-veterans frowned upon for posting polls?

The problem isn't what we gave up, it's who we got in return. Jim Jackson is a good player but Rockets don't need anymore offense. We should have traded for a defensive specialist. Well its not all bad....we got rid of Rice ;)

But that's the beauty in Jim Jackson Qazi! He is a solid defender! A solidshooter, a good slasher and he's great around the basket. He also rebounds well and has a nice passing game. He is a very well rounded player. He has showed in recent years he has no problem acting as a role player or taking the game over if he needs to. He's exactly the kind of player this team needs. I'm very excited.:D

i think the deal was rice and the pick for 6.5 mil to play with. I would give up our pick gladly for 6.5mil to sign a proven player.

wasnt jj signed with our MLE? that makes it unrelated. even still, outside of LA, did we not do a damn good job with our MLE and vet min?

It's not Rice for picks. It's Rice for picks + 6.5 - 7 million trade exception, which can be used even if over the cap. I believe one of the lottery picks (the one from Chicago) is conditional. So if we land in the lottery (or anywhere under top 20), we can keep it give them a second round next year. Besides, what can Rice give us that Pike couldn't or much cheaper? In a perfect world it would be Rice for a 1st round pick but why would Utah help us, being in the same conference? Amaechi is the necessary evil, but he's packing his bags in two seasons any ways.

Both teams helped themselves, they got rid of a cancer and a stiff. But we just helped ourselves more.
