I love the fact that Hawkins played for the Globetrotters. You know that his teammates have to mess with him a little about that. Does anyone remember all of tricks they used to do. All I remember is the old ball in the back of the shirt gag where the defender would get called for traveling. Also, the real lame play where all of the players would run around in circles passing the ball to each other above the three point line and the Generals could never figure out how to stop it. Maybe Hawkins should show Rudy how the motion offense is supposed to be run.
I don't believe Hawkins played for the "trick" squad. Didn't he play for the squad that actually plays true basketball, without the mics and the Washington Generals?
Very nteresting topic. With this kind of experience, Hawkin has established a strong sense of coordination, the keeness to read opponents' moves, good ball passing, and very fluid movement on the court. That could be the reason why he is instinctively a good defensive player. Man, this guy is getting more interesting.
Aren't they the same squad? Only sometimes they play for real with the same players. I know that the Generals beat the Globetrotters once.
I think Hawkins should pull Gary Peyton's basketball shorts down tonight. That was always a good Globetrotter trick. It might get Peyton super mad, and get him ejected from the game tonight.
Sorry to dissapoint you guys...I dont think Hawkins played for the crazy Harlem Globtrotters that does the tricks
http://harlemglobetrotters.com/history/alltimeroster.php Is he : Juaquin "Hawk" Hawkins F 6-7 Long Beach State The play: - win every game, baby. Win every game.
Nooooooo....totally different squads. The one Hawk played for has a real coach, and they play real basketball. No mics, no Generals, no fluff. Oliver Miller played for them, as well as Keith Closs, formerly of the Clippers.
You had to ruin it for me. My "trick" request was that Juaquin not allow the Rockets to lose but 2 games in the next 10 years.
Wait. So those Globetrotter teams that hammer college teams regularly weren't the trick teams? I'm kinda disappointed.
I saw Medalark Lemmon Kick a basketball "NFL field goal style" and swish it from half court at the summit when I was a kid. Luckiest shot I've ever seen. I wonder if Hawkins walks around with "sweet georgia brown" stuck in his head.
Can't we at least pretend that HAwkins played for the trick squad? I do have one question about that trick squad, back in the day. Curly Neal hit close to 100% of those trick shots from half court. Why didn't he play for an NBA team. No one would guard him at the half court mark, and he could have made bucket after bucket from there. If other teams did guard him out there, then that's one less person they have to double with if the team's real star has the ball.
FranchiseBlade, I have often wondered the same thing. I am only guesing, but maybe they used a smaller ball for that shot and a bigger rim. But still, that's one hell of a shot. I've seen four man softball team whip a 9 man team before. Dressed as girls. Those were the best softball players I have ever seen in my life. It was pretty amazing to watch.
