For the 2000s, I am going to try to keep players who are current and still active, because this is for players who are near their peak or in their prime.

Mainly comparing the players between the two groups:

    1990s
    ----------------------------------------
    Gary Payton
    John Stockton
    Kevin Johnson
Anfernee Hardaway (combo, but played PG in his first few seasons)
    Mark Price
    Magic Johnson (older version ; 89-90, 90-91, 95-96)
    Isiah Thomas (late 20s/early 30s)
Jason Kidd (the early Mavs/Suns version)
    Tim Hardaway
    Terrell Brandon
    Nick Van Exel
    Kenny Anderson
    Mookie Blaylock
    Michael Adams
    Mark Jackson
    Derek Harper
    Sam Cassell (in his 20s)
    Muggsy Bogues
    Rod Strickland
    Terry Porter
    Kenny Smith
    B.J. Armstrong
    Dana Barros
    Scott Skiles
    Robert Pack

    2000s
    -----------------------------------------------
    Jason Kidd (The Nets/Suns version)
    Steve Nash
    Chris Paul
    Deron Williams
    Rajon Rondo
    Baron Davis
    Chauncey Billups
    Tony Parker
    Jason Terry
    Steve Francis
    Andre Miller
    Derrick Rose
    Stephon Marbury
    Sam Cassell (in his 30s)
    Derek Fisher
    Jose Calderon
    Jason Williams
    Michael Bibby
    Jameer Nelson
    Kirk Hinrich
    Russell Westbrook (upcoming)
    Aaron Brooks (upcoming)
    John Wall (upcoming)
    Tyreke Evans (upcoming)
    Nate Robinson

Back then they didn't have the no hand checking rule. Wonder how dominate a lot of those PGs would've been in todays game...

    I voted the 90s.

If we're talking about overall talent during the decade, it's the 2000's....especially if you add Iverson into the mix.

The 90's for sure. That was back when the NBA was somewhat of a team game, and PG's were pass-first for the most part.

    allen f'in iverson

    seriously"?

    leave him out?
he's better than everyone there, except for probably 5 or 6 players.
    smh man.

Allen Iverson was a shooting/combo guard, Eric Snow and Willie Green, both played and started at point.

Yet you included Anfernee Hardaway, Jason Terry, Steve Francis, Aaron Brooks, and Tyreke Evans?

All of those guys are shooting/combo guards.

To me it doesn't really matter. But Hardaway, Terry, Francis, and Brooks are all listed as PGs. Iverson and Evans are listed as SG, I think.

The best era for point guards was the early '90s.

    magic johnson
    isiah thomas
    kevin johnson
    mark price
    tim hardaway
    john stockton
    terry porter

all were in their prime save for isiah who had slowed down due to injuries. you take it down to the next tier and you had:

    kenny smith
    michael adams
    pooh richardson
gary payton (still blossoming at this point. jumpshot was terrible)
    sherman douglas
    scott skiles

not to mention, this era is a lot more guard friendly thanks to the rule changes that occured in '05 allowing guards to get to the lane with ease. it was harder for a pg to break down a defense back then. someone like isiah, kj and timbug would do a lot better in this era thanks to their athleticism and ability to penetrate.

i vote this year if possible...

almost every team has an elite or at least a very good point guard

    going by each division

    boston - rondo
    ny - felton
    toronto - calderon
    philly - lou + holiday
    nj - d harris

    chicago - rose
    indiana - collison
    milwaukee - jennings
    cleveland - mo
    detroit - stucky

k i got lazy to list them all but you get the picture
