The fact that you have #1 on the poll at all makes the poll useless. I believe most people voting #1 are doing so out of the stupidity of having it on the poll at all. The fact is, the guy is 26 years old. It's actually impossible for him to ever achieve #1 over Hakeem and it should not even be on the list. Best he can achieve is #2 (even though it is almost certainly unlikely given Yao Ming's offensive capabilities).

It's hard to really place Elvin Hayes or Moses Malone because they only played a small sample of their career with the Rockets. So I would place them on the list if its for "the best player on the team for even a year or two" but as for numerical records, he could probably end up as high as #3 if he played out his career here, improved his offense, and never got injured while retiring at age 38.

    Two cents.

Elvin Hayes and Yao Ming are far from "Everyone Else" as far as their importance to this franchise's legacy go.

First of all Elvin Hayes (Big E) put the Houston Rockets on the map when they came here from San Diego. Your talking about a player that led the league in scoring AS A ROOKIE, and posted a career average of 21pts 12reb per game over his career. He was traded away during his career, but ultimately came back and finished his career in Houston. He's a Houston legend much less just a Rockets legend.

    #1. Hakeem
    #2. Malone
    #3. Big E
    #4. Yao
    #5. Sampson(technically a PF)
    #6. Mutumbo
#7. ???... Could be Asik eventually.

*Note Ralph Sampson was a PF technically, much like Pau Gasol as a player, but still should earn a spot in this list.
*Mutumbo would be higher on this list, but did not serve his best years as a Rocket. Still with his later part of his career in Houston, he served a functional part of this team, and became a great representative for the city of Houston.

If Asik comes anywhere close to leapfrogging even Mutumbo on this list, this would be one of the greatest Rockets free agent signings of all time.

Somewhere between Kelvin Cato and Hakeem Olajuwon.

At least top 10. I can't think of anyone other than the four mentioned in the OP who are better, but I may be missing someone (apologies if someone already mentioned a good candidate... not gonna read through the thread right now).

Dikembe Mutombo was a better center for his career, but his time with the Rockets wasn't better than Omer's will be... Although even just his time with us was pretty damn good. May have been way better had he not spent most of that time in Yao's injury-prone shadow.

No love for Zan Tabak? I once (at least once) saw him attempt an uncontested 8ft hook shot that went over the entire backboard & into the 3rd row of the stands behind the goal. Dude was the Ivan Drago of the NBA....

He won't be rank in the 10 because he's getting traded for dwight howard next year.
