My friend and I were having a debate earlier about Pbev and where he ranks defensively based on last season. I said he was good defensively but not at all elite, my friend believes he is atleast a top 3 defensive pg. I'm thinking more of 5-7 range. What do you guys think and who do you put ahead of him? Thanks!

He was bottom 10 of all starting PGs last season. Yes it was that bad. His 94 feet actions lead to a lot of 5 on 4, dumb fouls, FTs and blow-bies leaving team mates to cover for him.

Beverley is know for his defense, his name will always, but I don't think he is an elite defender. He is scrappy as hell, he's stong for his size and plays with 200% heart and hustle. That being said I just view him as an overall slightly above average defender. When he's pumped up he can make a big impact, but he also gets blown buy and is out of position sometimes.

Beverly's defense has really went down the past couple of seasons.

Bev was a horrible defender last year.

He has the illusion of being a good defender because he gets up in your grill and piss off the opponent. Then after the opponent get a T because they hate Bev so such, they absolutely just destroy him.

DESTROYED LAST YEAR every time he pissed off someone by guarding someone 94 ft from the basket.

Yup. That's all I saw last year. It was 5 on 4 because Bev wouldn't let the other PG breath, and then they blow by him.

It's like calling Harden a good defender or Curry a good defender because they get a lot of steals.

Curry, Harden, Bev = Horrible defenders

Now? Not so much. I got a weird feeling every game I tuned in on this season. The various positive reputations on the team never lived up to expectation. If the team had mounted a good team defense of their 1st rounder, all would have been forgiven.

His defense can be good to elite in spurts, which is why needs to come off of the bench in an energy/agitator role.

His defense is crazy overrated after the trainwreck that was last season. There's a reason the Rockets were getting torched every night by the opposing team's point guards, and it wasn't just bad team defense. He desperately needs a good defensive coach to come in and tell him to just chill out and play smart basketball. Clearly he has all the skills to be an elite defender, but he didn't show anything remotely close to that last season.

IMO clearly better than him last year

    Rubio
    Marcus Smart
    CP3
    Lowry
    Conley
    Avery Bradley
    Eric Bledsoe
    Curry
    George Hill
    Jeremy Lin
    Teague
    Westbrook
    Wall
    Corey Joseph
    Dellavedova
    Tony Parker

    So yeah, he's pretty mediocre.

I remember that one time Bev shut Westbrook down completely. He couldn't do anything. For like, the rest of the series.

Yea, Curry was so scared of Bev that he faked an injury to avoid Bev. Didn't Curry only average 16 points against the Rockets in the playoff??? That's half of what Curry usually get.

He did the same thing to Westbrook in the playoff? BEV is the PG you don't want to play against and players will fake injuries to avoid him.

    BEV = ELITE DEFENDER!!
