What's wrong with what he said?

It's pretty accurate. Add the fact that martin was in a bad mood after sitting the 2nd quarter, it's no surprise he was so cold and ineffective later on.
At least he tried to play reasonable defense.

Is that a general trend people have noticed? Does Martin tend to have good games against teams that foul more, and bad games against teams that don't?

it's a legitimate statement/observation no doubt, i just don't think he meant it's "new thread" worthy.

Something i've noticed, he is only shooting 44 percent this season...that's not great. He has shot the 3-ball very well but when teams don't foul, it turns him into strictly a jumpshooter and if he is off....

Although I haven't researched any stats on it, Martin's points per game average probably would be around 12 to 15 without free throw points.

It seems like that would be obvious. We're talking about the guy with the most ft attempts in the NBA. When he doesn't get to the line, it throws his whole game off.

Wade, Pau, Love, Griffin, Manu, Lebron, Durant

All have around the same eFG as Martin. Please stop talking about him relying on FTs.

Yeah, it throws off his game. Of course, he gets the calls more often than not, although when the refs swallow their whistles at the end of games, it hurts him some. One has to wonder how he would fair during the playoffs. If we had a "superstar" level, or near superstar level talent taking the attention away from Martin, he'd also be hitting those treys and midrange jumpers, so I don't think he's necessarily overdependent on going to the line in that scenario and could be very effective at end of game situations and in the playoffs. His defense is another story.

Pretty much all of the leading scorers in the league go to the FT line a lot.
Yes, if you took away Martin's free throws then he'd average 15.5. Take away free throws and Wade averages 18.5, Lebron 19.7, Rose 19.3, Durant 20.9 and Kobe 18.9.

Except for Rose all of those guys get 6 to 7 pts per game at the FT Line. Wade, Lebron and Durant all go to the line more than Martin. Kobe goes the same number of times and Amare is right behind Martin. Martin hits FT at a better pct. so he end up with more points from the line than Amare, Wade, Kobe or Lebron.

If you're a scorer there will be days when your shot isn't falling but you can still usually get your points at the FT line. That's not a bad thing and all of those elite scorers are good at consitently going to the line. Jordan did it, Malone did it, Dantley did it, most high scoring players go to the line a lot, so why is it a bad thing that Kevin Martin goes to the line a lot?

I was at the game last night and Kevin Martin was doing just fine until he got yanked for turning the ball over. He got off to a VERY good start.

It's not a bad thing unless your entire offensive game depends upon going to the line. Do you honestly not see a difference b/t Martin and the other guys you mentioned?

It's not that bad either considering the best player on the Rockets puts up these percentages:

He had an off shooting game yesterday. He missed a bunch of wide open 3's, give him a break.
