It makes perfect sense. All sports are recreational, not all recreations are sports.

If it doesn't matter then don't call it a sport.

I call it an eSport because that's what people have eventually settled on. I have no dog in the fight.

Feel free to call it whatever you want.

you know there's no set term for it right. Some call it esport, some call it pro gaming, competitive gaming etc etc.

but all sports can be recreations...

so you can't say something isn't a sport because it's a recreation or considered recreational at times

Don't know but I think I'd pay to see a 5'10-300lb guy try synchronized swimming.

I understand it may sound weird, because indeed you're sitting all the time. But I can tell you, competitive gaming on a higher level is not just mentally challenging, it's exhausting. Pros usually practice 10-12 hours a day and hit the gym before or after. You have to be in shape to keep up. Maybe not in the way traditional athlete has to be in shape, but if you consider the disciplines I mentioned as sports (and they're all part of the Olympics), you can't exclude eSports.
Well, that's a weird fetish. You should leave that with Jontro in the PG-13.

MOBAs like LoL and Dota are hard for casual fans to watch. You won't really know what's going on unless you've spent some time playing the games. I think CS:GO is the easiest eSport game to pick up on right now, and I also think it's the most fun to watch.

When esports started becoming popular I was puzzled why someone would watch another person play a video game - then I thought about how popular chess, go, Scrabble, etc. tournaments were and it totally made sense.

If that’s the criteria then gambling is a sport then.

It's not a ****ing sport because it's not a ****ing sport. Nothing like it ever has been.

This is not a very difficult discussion, sorry kids.

Funny, because Poker is actually one of the flagships of the biggest sports channel here in Germany. Not sure if you meant that by gambling, in which time is not a factor though and you don't need extraordinary mechanics or hand-eye-coordination.

I think Rocket League is even more easier to watch than that. It's based off soccer.

The basic premise of CSGO and League are understandable. Kill things, the team that kills more things wins. But the underlying economy strategy and game knowledge will be completely lose to the casual audience.

Rocket League on the other hand, is a lot easier to understand.

The US issues P-1A visas to pro gamers recognizing them as professional athletes.

    Dont be ignorant.

Go play an FPS game like CS:GO and tell me how good you can get. It will take you tons of hours/years to master a lot of things and you will still probably suck and not be professional level.

Same with MOBA games like Dota/League
