Had the rockets kept all the players from the last years roster my guess is the rockets would have been viewed as being worse off due to old age and injuries. Ariza too expensive and Moute cant defend anymore due to old age and injuries would be one of the possible slogans.

We stayed the same, warriors got better, they don’t know how we can mentally bounce back from what happened last year, etc.etc.

If only they had added melo, they may have stood a chance as a dark horse.

    Melo.

    Yeah, I said it.

"They had their chance, but the window is closed!"

    Oh wait.

That's the narrative now, isn't it?

That was the exact narrative that was put out there in the days following Game 7!

Now, hilariously, many of those same people are indignant over the concept of changing that roster.

Ariza is regressing and may not be able to contribute any more. He has a ton of miles on his body.

Not necessarily a media narrative - but I'm wondering if announcers will respect that Harden is indeed the Most Valuable Player.

    "MVP James Harden ..."

    or

"James Harden who joins the likes of Curry and Westbrook as MVP..."

    or

"MVP James Harden who edged out Lebron James in a close MVP race - headed to free throw line..."

The media narratives would have been: these guys are too old to hang with the warriors; Mba a Moute will be sidelined with injuries - - non factor; last season was an outlier, the Rockets will not make the playoffs with these old goons. Oh! by the way, Trev Ariza will not make a difference because his usage rate and age have finally catch up with him. So no matter what the Rockets do, the narratives will still be bad.

The Roster was too old, and many journeymen on the bench, young players that don't have potential,
Trevor Ariza, Luc Mbah Moute, Joe Johnson(Really Declined), Ryan Anderson(No Lateral Quickness on Defense)
Aaron Jackson, R.J Hunter, Markel Brown, Chinanu Onuaku, Tariq Black.
The Bench Now is extremely Deep and Really Talented, with Length, Athleticism, Most of the players acquired Can Create their own Shot, Shoot Midrange is Huge especially the whole 3 and layup concept in the West Finals don't work too well.
I am glad Chris Paul is on the Team, His Voice and Wisdom to the Team Front Office Needs is Creators, Midrange, Athleticism, Depth at each Position.
PG Chris Paul, Brandon Knight, MCW
    SG James Harden, Eric Gordon,
SF Carmelo Anthony, James Ennis, Gerald Green
    PF P.J.Tucker, Bruno Caboclo
C Clint Capela, Marquese Chris, Zhou Qi, Nene

I actually don't think it would be as bad since all we've heard was that the Rockets were one Chris Paul hamstring away from winning the championship.

I don't care what their narrative is. I didn't care last season. My solution to the inane crap coming from the usual talking heads? Kick the league's ass. Again. Beat them despite the refs and pray for luck with the "I" word. That works for me.
