It seems like the media wants us to live in a state of fear. I'd like to hear what people think the greatest danger is that you are concerned about and why it's so important or dangerous. I've tried to list what I think the major concerns for both sides of the political map are, apologies if I missed something big.

    1. Overreaching government
    2. Debt
    3. Global Warming
    4. Endless war, WWIII
    5. Economy
    6. Immigration
    7. Terrorism
    8. Gun Owners
    9. Pollution / non GW related environmental concerns
    10. Other

I fear that we will have a society in which my children are afraid to leave the house. Whether that's through war, poverty, or the growing trend of personal isolation remains to be seen.

I only read the thread title and assumed you meant the United States, so I voted debt. Then when I saw that you meant the Earth, and I would change my vote to endless war.

It's not really a "fear", but is the source of many of the problems listed

    ^^^THIS^^^

Because it not only leads to the vain worshipping of possessions, but it has increasingly led to a debt-riddled society, an increase in domestic problems in the home, and the overall decline of the US. Unfortunately, slowly Europe will become the same way.

This is one area where real Hippies have the total advantage over non-hippies - material possessions really shouldn't be a status symbol.

Probably not in a store, though I'm sure you could buy it online for $25.

Or get it from on Kindle for $3

Or read the free PDF here: http://mises.org/books/the_state_oppenheimer.pdf

Psshhh, "our society." **** you guys! I can't stand people's bull**** opinions of society. Everybody seems to think they can make society better if only they had the power. I disagree. Give nobody the power, and we'll fall into nature's equilibrium. Government and attempts to control society fly in the face of nature.

All part of nature's equilibrium, my friend. Despite all of that, we persist. I'd say that we do so in spite of a social structure that exploits the smallest segments of society; the family and the individual.

An out of control, wasteful and power mad government and its supporters. I don't like the illiberal tendencies of contemporary liberalism. They aren't tolerant or liberal. They are obsessed with controlling everyone and destroying those who disagree with them. True liberalism is pro individual rights and civil liberties. The anti Constitutional trends of the current and PREVIOUS administration is frightening. I was strongly opposed to the Patriot Act, and "over-reaching" is on a fast track.

I'm voting economy as a catch-all. A inefficient and/or unjust economy results in most of those other things.

reminds me of the 90's wannabe hippies I used to sit around with at the fountain in college - I would get so irritated when they would throw their cigarette butts on the ground before they left for class...way to be one with Nature.
