at the beginning of spring training Brad Peacock would be the game three starter in the ALDS and Marwin Gonzalez would lead our team in RBIs during the regular season? It's still hard for me to wrap my head around those two things but I couldn't be happier both are Astros. I know both have been praised heavily on this board but just wanted to give them both props before Peacock takes the mound Sunday. Congrats to Peacock on the game three start! He's certainly earned it and it's crazy to think had McHugh been healthy to start the season this guy probably wouldn't be an Astro.
I hope so! I love Peacock. Just saying I hate threads where I feel it jinxed it. Red Sox will come out gunning and risking. Give Peacock a lead and it's over.
OP: I would have thought no one had more than 65 RBIs, we rode great pitching into the playoffs, and two or three starters got hurt in September. Some unexpected great performances this year, for sure.
What if I told yall to calm the *** down about predictions and jinxes. Let this **** ride out and let the cards fall as they may(on our sides hopefully). GO STROS!!!!
Almost everything I was thinking about or expecting of the starting pitching staff at the beginning of spring training turned out to be wrong. Didn't expect Peacock or Morton to amount to much. Thought LMJ was a solid #2 Joe Mustgoe (turned out to have a role after all) DK on the DL twice McHugh out most of year. 4 SP out at same time Verlander. Really? Fiers turned out to be Fiers, so I was right about one guy.
Yeah, but when they needed Fiers to step up in June and July when LMJ was worthless and Keuchel was hurt, he did.
I did say "turned out to be" by which I meant his season as a whole and as a playoff consideration (which he wasnt). But sure, he had a great two months at a good time. But what defines a player isn't when he is aberrant, but his mean.
Astros team leaders in strikeouts: Morton Peacock Fiers McCullers None have pitched yet. Fiers and Morton led the team in innings as well. I wonder if the team leaders in innings and strikeouts have ever not pitched in a playoff series while being healthy?
I'd assume the answer to that question is no...seems like too much would have to happen as was the case with the Astros.
Still think LMJ has #2 stuff but it's clearly he'll never be healthy. Now that we have Verlander I think we should put him in the pen next year and hope he can become an Andrew Miller/Devo type.
