Analytics most definitely has a place in sports. Those who completely dismiss it do so to their disadvantage. But what if the opposite is true? What if complete (or near complete) reliance on 'math ball' (a Zach Lowe reference) is also done to a teams detriment? Let's face, Morey has done a stellar job building the roster -- but maybe the team needs some old school-ness suffused throughout it? Some...additional balance?
I don't think Morey tells MDA how to coach "Moreyball" may be a thing , but it's MDA that's choosing to do it . What "system" does MDA have other than, "get the ball to James" ? (Or CP3)
Again, Morey is not immune to criticism, he made some mistakes this season, but in the end he still delivered a good enough roster, and: - he's not the one who played 7 players giving minutes to unplayable dudes down the stretch - he's not the one who took Chris Paul out with 5 freaking minutes to go when he was on fire - he's not the one who pissed in his pants instead of going for the jugular after Durant got injured - he's not the one who made the most soft/careless inbound pass i've ever seen in the last two minutes of an elimination game He actually built a contending roster for all his tenure here and called out the league about the refs rig job, if there's a guy on this organization that made his job and shown some guts, it's him.
