A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ We got a bonafide scorer/6th man and got rid of Brewer? How much can one 1st round pick in the low 20's be worth?
I don't know how good Lou is at defense, but he is good at offense. Brewer, for all his hustle, contributed little to the Rockets. Lou gonna do something at least. that deserves no less than "B+". I'm giving it an "A" though.
B, because: 1.) We're facing Memphis in the playoffs. If they outrebound the **** out of us, it'll just be a redux of Miami and Utah all over again. We still need a rebounding big. 2.) A first round pick is worth more in Morey's hands than it is in other GMs'. Capela, Dekker, Harrell. How did we get so deep? We need picks to keep the farm system rolling. I'll credit them in that Lou Williams is a legit player, and will shore up our rotation and ensure we never see Brewer KJ or Ennis play a minute for us ever again. Plus, Beverley and Gordon always seem to be dinged up so this is insurance against that. Still, the loss of the pick hurts.
How do we get a good big man now? Is Eric Gordon expendable? For that matter, is Lou Williams expendable?
A+ We got a talented and experienced ball handler and scorer with two years left at $7mil each for a very late 1st round pick and someone we would happily get rid of. We still have KJ, who at the very least has youth and athleticism with 2 years at $3.3mil each. Lou Williams will be the primary ball handler when Harden isn't on the floor and this will enable Harden to take less of a load. We were gifted this essentially.
I have no idea really. The 2nd unit on this team should be one of the stronger ones in the league now, probably top 2-3 if you take into consideration that the starters around Harden are not better than the warriors/cavs/spurs and the Rockets have the record they do. The notion will tested now that has floated around Clutchfans. Which is KJ was not getting minutes so Brewer could get traded. I dunno about that, but it could be a possibility.
Cbs sports reported 2 hrs ago that Beverley is fully healed from his groin strain. Good to have Bev healthy and have this huge upgrade to the guard rotation. Brewer had to go. This is a nice move.
Something like this? Not against it but don't love it either. I hate trading away first round picks but every trade you wanted to make, the other team was asking for one. He'll obviously be in the rotation but insurance for the inevitable Beverley/Gordon injuries.
I want to give it a B+ or an A-, but I gave it an A because a B just seemed harsh. In terms of sheer value, it's probably an A. You dump your worst rotational player to add a hyper-efficient scorer who fits into your offense like a glove. But this deal isn't the piece that's going to push them past the Warriors.
