David Aldridge said it, too. Said right now it's a no brainer.

Guys, I think he's gonna win it.

As long as the dude stays outta the strip clubs and off TMZ - he'll get it... imo...

MVP is all about marketing the NBA... that's why they love pretty boy Curry standing there with his wife and cute kid...

The 'fat asthmatic kid who rises to the pinnacle in the NBA' is a good story... just dont alienate folks with crap like 'those who matter dont mind - and those that mind dont matter...' and showing up on hoes instagram feeds... and he'll win it...

It's about marketing - end of story

James' wrist injury late last season really hurt him.. His 3PT% dropped ~3 points. Westbrook always had better stats overall, but James' shooting efficiency was his advantage. While his 3PT% was falling, Westbrook started dropping 50-point tri-dubs in an already close race. Harden was mostly leading until late.

Moving forward, there's ZERO way any Warrior or Westbrook wins another MVP before James. Everybody knows '15 and '17 were coin-flips. Harden won't get bypassed in a close race to anyone who's already won. Giannis - in a weak East - would need win 58+ games to win this year. Kyrie's stats are laughable compared to Harden. It already appears DNPs will cancel Kawhi. Cavs might need 60 wins for LeBron's 5th.

Having CP3 or not as good as last year will be the argument against him.

Also the love for Giannis is very strong and Lebron & Kahwi are due for an MVP (again) to many. if Warriors go nuts, look at Durant getting another one. With the Celtics I also see the narrative for Kyrie. Lastly, Blake is getting a lotta love so if Clippers manage top 3 in the West, who knows.

Those 7 are in contention, the rest is out. Westbrook will definitely not repeat, Curry has won too many already and Grizzlies are not sexy enough for a Gasol or Conley win.

this. for all the complaining and whining about "media conspiracy", nobody brings up how horrible Harden's shooting was late into the season (plus the usual turnovers.) Not that I agree with Westbrook's MVP, but narrative wise it was just a very unfortunate circumstance for Harden, because recency bias is real and you can't really ignore it.

Why bring up the turnovers? IIRC #2 on that list was Westbrook. Both players were turnover machines last season.

The only way Harden wins MVP is if the Rockets are the #1 seed and we win the gsw head to head in the regular season.

If we're 2nd seed, the media won't be impressed as many expected the rockets to get 2nd seed.

Very true. Even in this forum theres been less talk about Hardens visits to strippers or clubs. Media has been talking more about his charity events.
Think it will come down to a. Staying healthy and b. What impact cp3 has on hardens game.

The bias is real. Tonight, Harden scores 38 points. Top scorer among all players in every game tonight.

35 entries on the sideboard in the Scores section of ESPN NBA. Not one mention of Harden. Not. One. Multiple about Porzingis, Lonzo Ball, Devin Booker, LeBron James, etc. Not one mention of Harden- the leading scorer of the evening.

That's what you call blatant bias.

If Kawhi DNP's once more this entire season, he'll be 60-something GP, at best. --- his '18 MVP is already voided.

Kyrie is almost 7 points behind James in PER. He wouldn't beat Harden if he finished four points behind AND Celtics won 60 games.

Knicks, Bucks, and Cavs won't win enough games -- Wack East.

If Rockets win 58 games and Harden has a 27 PER, he's the MVP.

That's what you call, "Curse"? :)

Harden is the easy leader, and that likely remains thru regular season's end.

Giannis will win the MVP as long as his team makes the playoffs. Media already has given it to him, they just need an excuse to not give it to him. We saw last year record doesnt matter.

Narrative and Sizzle are the new factors.

He should just use basketball reference MVP odds instead of embarrassing himself.

Who else can dominate with 56pts on 25 shots one night and a few nights after dismantle a defense with 11assists in 2 quarters with a +20?

I am actually most impressed by his defense this game. Shall I say it is even good?

Yeah, seems pretty clear they're pushing hard for Giannis right now, but even if Giannis somehow starts to play worse or gets injured, i still expect something as smart and technical as this by ESPN to pop up soon:

"Is Kawhi Leonard the real MVP of this season? Kawhi Leonard has played zero games so far this season, but according to our sources his leadership is well cemented in the lockeroom, and is making a bigger impact on the old Spurs than you might think"
