He looked like a deer staring at headlights the first of the season, but now the Nets are sitting at #5 in the (weak) Eastern Con. and 8-2 with a big win over the Heat in their last 10 games.

Never doubted him. He could be the next Phil Jackson.

Phil Jackson started out in the NBA as a hall of fame point guard as well and coached right after retiring as a player

Their small/big weird hybrid lineup has been working well. Their defense with packing the paint and then using their length has been quite good. And offensively they're healthy.

I like the Nets. The East has started to look slightly better now.

Good post -- I haven't been following the Nets at all -- just curious how Kidd has seemingly turned it around.

Because Kidd is a consummate professional. He brings it night in and night out.

Probably go into the Finals in the twilight of his coaching career as he went to win a title as a 36 year old.

This turnaround that they basically lucked into will be enough for Jason Kidd to parlay into a mediocre 10-20 year coaching career. He's still a really bad coach and the Nets are going to get bounced so hard.

I always think that coaches who used to be guards in the nba fair better than big men coaches.

Phil Jackson was not a hall of fame player. He was never even an all-star.

Well, I hate to kill the snark I know is lurking in the room... but I think you may be thinking of 'Jack', as in Mark, as in former Rocket/player-asst. coach with JVG.

On the other hand, Phil's greatest moment on the NBA hardwood would have to be the one immortalized by his small-screen appearance in the big-screen 'Crooklyn'. Thank you, Spike Lee.

He learned to not be such a control freak and defer all tasks to his assistant coaches. ;)

He wasn't a point guard, either. And he didn't start coaching immediately after retiring.

I'm pretty sure that was the joke? I wasn't sure, so I didn't say anything.

For all the young guys, how did you react after learning Kidd is half-black?
