Will Rockets be able to afford a good PF plus paying increased salaries to both Parsons and Bev under the cap system, assuming only Asik gets traded, while Lin remains?

Only way to 'pay' him is through the cap system. Everything else is illegal.

Though I'm sure he appreciates his new sneaker deal.

If Lin gets traded by the deadline along with Asik, then Parsons is getting paid this summer before he hits UFA.

ive heard the income of the NBA is higher than expected so the salary cap will significantly rise.

Give him a giant contract with a shoe company that Leslie Alexander invests in and sponsors exactly 3 NBA athletes.

They should decline his option, let him go be a restricted free agent and match any offers.

If that's the case then we should make a desperate push for LeBron and sign Chandler afterwards.

Parsons will get signed in the summer of 2015 using Bird rights. Right after the Rockets sign a player or two to big contracts. Simple.

    It's not going to happen.

Lin and Asik are gone when Parsons gets his next contract.

    Either
1.) Lin and Asik are packaged with other pieces in a trade for the next big piece.
2.) Lin and Asik expire and we use cap space to add the next big piece.

You could be right. Asik certainly, but Lin? I am not so sure.

Hey you edited your post. LOL. Nice job.

He will go into the luxury tax.

He won't wrack up tens of millions of dollars in payments, but it's manageable.

Also just thinking about it, morey wouldn't want to go into lux tax either as it takes away all flexibility moving foward

Please, Dan Fegan isn't dumb and Morey isn't all above board. The Rockets most likely already have a "handshake agreement" with Dan Fegan with a nice contract for Parsons in 2015 regardless of situation. I bet you even if Parsons get career-ending injury, the Rockets will still mysterious sign him to a 1yr/$10mil contract "just to see if he comes back *wink wink*." Parsons financial future was secure the moment Dwight Howard signed with the Rockets.

I'm also certain the Rockets will pay Parsons market value. No reason not to. They have his bird rights and can pay him over the cap anyway.

I always watch what people do, not what they say. Les has NOT done it. He is not Mark Cuban.

The luxury tax issue is overblown for the Rockets. The Rockets haven't been in the tax so they won't be subjected to repeater tax for another 3 years AFTER re-signing Parsons. Les don't have to worry about the harsh penalities during Harden/Howard's prime, that's for sure. After that, who knows?

The repeater penalties apply only if you were in the tax 3 of the last 4 seasons.

On the Rockets most likely path, they would have huge payrolls in 2015 and 2016, but then Howard's contract expires and you would be in the clear. It is unlikely a 31-32 year old Howard commands another huge deal.

I find it extremely hard to believe that Morey will go to Les and say: "Look, we can add Kevin Love and bring Parsons back, but you are looking at 10-20 million in luxury tax payments over the next two years" and have Les turn him down.

He okay'ed the 30 million in balloon payments to Asik/Lin, so I have faith in him. Not to mention, these past two seasons have been extremely profitable for the Rockets.

    Les wants to win.

Les paid the tax in 2010-2011, watch closer.

10-20 million in luxury tax payment is probably equal to 20-40 million in actual additional costs (luxury tax + the salary that triggered the tax).

Based on last year's financials, even if the team's revenue jumped to Heat's level due to fielding a "true" contender that would still mean Les will earn significantly less profit by paying 10-20 mil in tax for a contender as opposed to fielding a competitive team under the tax.

Also, don't going over the tax have an impact on the revenue sharing as well?

Sure Les want to win, but he probably want to make $$ more. Unlike most NBA owners, he's not a multibillionaire that treats the team as his play toy. Les is actually kinda "poor" by NBA owners standards. Heck, people are discussing whether Herb Simmon (owner of a the Pacers, who also happens to be a much much richer man than Les) is willing to go over the luxury tax next year.

People will offer him BIG money, more than Rockets can afford to pay.
So we should offer him a fair amount and hopefully he'll accept.
