Just curious but why isn't he credited more for the championships? Why did Rockets let him go? Where is he now?
I knew that name was familiar! Sure, the spelling is a bit off, but similar. I've passed it numerous times, even stopping in on occasion.
Rudy brought him to essentially liaise between him and Owner Alexander, who apparently did not like the arrangement. That’s my recollection.
Who??? I assume he's white?? I assume he played when only white guys were allowed to play? Does he own that Weiner Hot Dog Franchise? Only Bob I know is Bob Horry
General manager of the Rockets between Steve Patterson and Carroll Dawson. @tinman, is this a True Rockets Fans Only thread?
I think he was GM in title only, where once Patterson left, it was really Rudy and Dawson. I think Dawson was sick for two years or something until he got better.
Like .00000001% of Clutchfans now can tell you who Charlie Thomas is This dude was hidden like the unibomber @Os Trigonum
I am a Lebron fans so I dont know who this German White guy is. I just know Jim Peterson and bobby sura for White guys
Yeah as he sucked as a owner. My family knew his organization and some worked for him (in the automotive side of his business). Charlie Thomas makes Tillman and Alexander look like the biggest spenders in the world. I never heard anything terrible about the man but he was not a great owner of the Rockets. He traded Moses Malone because he didn’t want to pay him right when he bought the team. Him and the Patterson’s wanted to trade Dream because Hakeem wanted to get paid. His ownership of the team really hamstrung the organization. As a businessman he was very successful and really made well for himself. He came from nothing and really built himself a nice empire.
IMO sports team ownership is part of a civic responsibility. Particularly as the municipalities usually paid (over the barrel) for arenas/stadia + tax breaks etc etc et alia. I accept ownership profits absolutely but that is not the sum total of their responsibilities.
Agreed. It’s hard for the league to judge how teams will allocate money other than the salary cap but they really need to have a league floor for all expenditures. They need mandatory spending amounts and headcount in analytics departments, community outreach, in game experiential investment, scouting, businesses development... If you don’t regulate this you are left with deadbeat owners after they lose their love for the game or run into financial trouble and are just the lame duck ownership group waiting for a sale.
He's the guy who traded for Tracy Murray...legendary move. "Hell, the slower people in the group can even talk about ex-Rocket Tracy Murray." oh, and he was also the GM for the Drexler and Barkley trades. Drexler was part of the Tracy Murray trade. #quarantinefact: Doug Collins was assistant coach for Bob Weinhauer at Penn and ASU.
