What’s stopping Butler from signing for less than max 1+1 deals like KD

so the recent information dump and cyberx tweets talk about Butler SNT options. The problem as we all know is that a SNT would hard cap us at 139 million. As Bima and Finsraider have detailed a max JB contract would leave us with

    Paul
    Harden
    Butler
    Tucker

6 million in cap outside of vet mins to stay under the apron.

Couldn’t we negotiate with Butler about sign and trade for less than max with a 1+1 like KD did to help offset some long term cost for him? Say instead of 32.7. We ask him to sign on to 22-24 for the first year. That gives us apron room of 14-16 million to use before using up all our apron space. Could unlock full NTMLE non birds and BAE as well. Gives Butler a raise. Security with the option and we can then the year after give him a full max with max years?

    Is this feasible?

Jimmy is a star but not a superstar. Durant is fortunate enough that even after tearing his achilles he will get a full max deal, that would not be the case for Jimmy

If I’m not mistaken. A sign and trade has to be at least three years.

CBAFAQ: Sign-and-trade contracts must be for at least three seasons (not including any option year) and no longer than four seasons. The first year of the contract must be fully guaranteed, but the remaining seasons can be non-guaranteed. The combination of a three-year minimum with a one-year guarantee ensures that the player's new team cannot acquire the player's Bird rights any sooner than if they had signed him directly (if they wanted to re-sign him in less than three years they would first have to waive him, and lose any Bird rights -- see question number 32).

    1) Sign and trade deals must be for a minimum of 3 years (though only first year has to be guaranteed)
    2) If Butler was willing to take so much less the first year (your scenario is low $20s) he could just opt in to current deal
    3) The (currently) prevailing presumption is that if he isn't opting in he wants the full max
