Morey needs to be aggressive and make a surprise move. Josh Smith is leaving ATl, and f they cant attract Howard or CP3 there, they'er basically a lottery team. Atlanta dont draw like that,so they probably would want to start cutting costs if they're ready to accept the reality that they're a lottery team and need to join the Wiggins sweepstakes. Maybe they start to look at Horford contract and try to move it out of respect for Horford and common sense for their own future outlook.

Houston can offer them Terence Jones, Thomas Robinson, Aaron Brooks, First and second round picks for Horford.

Horford naturally is a pf and would feel a vital need.

Horford (and Noah) is a proven winner at the college level. I think he will be a winner at the NBA level as well. But Atlanta would have to be offered a lot of assets to part with Horford.

Ill pass, Horford is not a game changer... He's not an enforcer nor a go to guy. Hell he's not even a 20 and 10 guy... WHy give up so much for this scrub?

Horford would be awesome for the Rockets but you are looking at a lot of what ifs...

    What if Atlanta get Howard...
What if Atlanta, after getting Howard want to trade Al Horford...
What if we Atlanta like the T-Jones, T-Rob, picks we can send them for Horford...

Dealing with trades is much more difficult than simply signing a free agent like J.Smith (not that I want J.Smith).

Horford is not a consistent 20 and 10 guy! He's a solid guy like Roy Hibbert but not a Star Caliber player like Dwight, Lamarcus ALdridge, Marc Gasol.

Horford is okay, but I would prefer Kevin Love.

I think they're perfectly content where they are. They have some cap space to add some kind of stopgap to keep them in contention in the East. Yeah as constructed they're a lottery team if they played in the west, but this is the East we're talking about. Atlanta will always stay just competitive enough to keep themselves out of the lottery. Just because they're losing Smith doesn't mean that they are going to be a lotto team. Their starting lineup really isn't bad, even without Smoove.

Your plan has too many holes. First the Hawks can't save anymore money. If they don't resign Korver and Smith they will be so far below the cap they will have to sign some players just to avoid paying a penalty. The league requires all teams pay 90% of the cap or face a penalty. The will be 38 million below the minimum and will need to spend around 34 mil more. What's really funny about that is they have to spend the money and it seems clear they don't want to spend it on Josh Smith. How little they must value his talents to not want to spend money they have to spend on one of their own.

Horford is not going anywhere to save money. Horford is not going anywhere unless they can et a young talented prospect who has more potential in his place. Maybe Robinson is that guy but I think they would want Asik or Parsons to complete that deal. So no Horford us. We need to improve without trading our core.

Would rather have Teague. Horford is an excellent big man, but not worth what Atlanta would want for him.

I don't think Horford is going nywhere. He's their franchise cornerstone. Is like asking Minny to part with Love or Sacramento with Cousins.

Agreed. Him playing with Asik would be nice. But I think it'd be better to develop the young PFs than to give up a lot for Horford, they won't let him go easy.

There are zero reasons for Atlanta to move him. NBA teams don't like trading a dollar for four quarters (because in general, it's a terrible idea) unless they're absolutely forced to. And that means the player is a year or less from free agency and can threaten to leave the team with nothing.

Unless the guy in question is a FA in 2014, teams aren't going to trade us one of their best players for our spare parts. Waste of time to even talk about.

This. We might as well talk about trading for LeBron. The Rockets won't offer Harden, the Hawks have no good reason to take anything less.

Hmm.. a lot of what-if's indeed, but you are giving even more food for thought here. So many freaking possibilities, it is maddening! This is going to be a long summer, I feel.

No way they do that trade. They have a decent just as it is to form a big three with Horford, Dwight, and CP3.

I LOVE the idea of Horford in a Rockets uniform... but Atlanta wanted Asik and Parsons for a Josh Smith rental....
