Please Clutchfans, I know that was a bad loss.. Ok a really bad loss. But lets try to use our brains here for a second. Please stop coming up with the solution of "getting rid" of Ryan Anderson. FIRST This is not NBA 2k with force trades on. This is not a Tmac situation where we are getting rid of a bad player, but they have an expiring contract. Ryan Anderson has 3 more years of 19 million dollars each GUARANTEED left on his contract. That means if we were to trade Anderson, the team that trades for him has to pay him 19 ****ing million dollars next year and for 2 more years after that if they cannot trade him. Is Ryan Anderson worth that much money? How much value does he provide ? Clearly, in our estimation ,not as much as we are paying him for. SECOND The reasoning behind why a trade is made is that both teams think they gain some value for it. Even if a team out there value's Ryan Andersons production/talent at the level of his contract, there is a salary cap and rules concerning trades surrounding that cap. Given that most teams cannot just take on Ryan Anderson's contract without giving US some salary. We have to weigh what we are getting back. The closer the other team is to the salary cap, or if they are over it... the closer the player we receive salary will be to Anderson's. That player will likely suck because A , a team was willing to trade him for Ryan Anderson B, A TEAM WAS WILLING TO TRADE HIM FOR RYAN ANDERSON Given this information, if we didn't want to end up with a player of the same level as Ryan Anderson , we would have to throw more positive value assets into the deal. Oh we already gave up our first. So then we have to start discussing our seconds, future picks, dekker or Harrell. Even then the player we have to take back will likely have a significant salary and impede us from going after some FA's .... is this not the reason we wanted to dump Anderson in the first place ? Its becoming expensive to "dump" Anderson There is another option. There are teams far enough under the cap that they can absorb Anderson's contract without having to send us back salary. The question for them becomes Is Ryan Anderson worth 19 million in salary this season ? if not what else do the rockets need to throw in to make it worthwhile. If Anderson is worth 19 million this year what other options do I have with that money? Are there other players I can pursue that give me better value both in FA and from teams that want to dump salary Assuming Anderson is still my top choice, how do I view the cost of having Anderson's contract on the books for another 2 years after this season. How does this impact my ability to chase FA/Take advantage of opportunities that arise in the future. Point number 3 sounds familiar, staying flexible is the approach Morey used in getting Harden and then quickly clearing cap for Howard. Had Morey had an albatross contract at the time, he may not have been able to make those moves, or he may have had to give up more assets to clear that space. TLDR ... its not going to be that easy to dump Ryan. He has an injury history, has serious flaws , and had a down season with an abysmal post season. Teams aren't going to be nice and take him off our hands to do us a solid. The cap growth is stabilizing and 18-19 million is some real money. The demand for Anderson is going to be driven by teams in situations for which his deal is attractive/valuable ... depending on where they stand with the cap we might have to take something back... we might not value the player they are offering as much as Ryan. I think we are gonna be stuck with him.
Help a team cleanup some of their bad contracts Smaller bad contracts are easier to move Rocket River
nor should we, hes a solid player and a perfect fit for harden...and its only his first year in houston give him some time to accomodate
This ain't the old NBA a lot of guys are making 15-20 million. A lot of guys are overpaid. Your crazy if you think Morey can't unload a stretch 4 in today's NBA.
If Rick Smith could simply dump Osweiler, then why can't Morey do the same with Anderson. Morey is the wizard of salary dumps. His toilet is gold plated, ready for any dump necessary
A stretch 4 who can't rebound and play defense? Add to that, can only shoot 50% of the games he plays in. eg Home vs On the road
in movies, the good guys always lose the first time around. then the next time they come back stronger, with better music and explosive slow motion.
He was horrific in game 6 and the other home games this series. You cannot make 18 million a year and play like this at home! Sam Dekker can do almost anything he can at a fraction of the cost.
he'd be great off the bench on a championship team. He can't shoot well every game because he is not athletic enough to recover from 1 game's rest, or when he actually has to play defense like harden. packaging him with harden to New York in some kind of sign and trade, and getting carmelo on a reasonable contract would be just find with me, if we can't just get picks. and young players...
Agreed. This isn't some dime-a-dozen wing player with a ridiculous contract. There's no denying the value of Ryno when he's consistently hitting 3s. A team like the Clippers could use him, if they don't get Blake back, but keep Paul. CP3/Jordan PnR with Reddick and Ryno looming, is dangerous. Any team with a defensive center (Utah, LAC, OKC, Miami, Detroit) could use a stretch 4.
Garbage player with garbage contract. Maybe the Nets will be desperate. They were willing to hand out $18M to Allen Crabbe & Tyler Johnson.
Nets have cap room, minimal draft assets, a need for talent and love to shoot 3's. Yeah, they easily could be a destination.
yup. This ain't the old NBA of last year when every team had 10s of millions of capspace. Now only a handful of teams will have more than 10 mil available capspace. And they will choose to waste it on Rhyan Anderson without any pick coming back!
