TEs and RBs aren't blocking. It's 4 DL vs 5 OL every play. You can only double team one guy and if you're a DE trying to beat your man wide, the Guard probably isn't helping.

You saying that Clowney would have to be as good as Watt is the same thing as saying Bridgewater would have to be as good as Manning. No one says that Brigewater would have to be Manning or he'd be a waste because that's stupid but you just said the Watt version.
