It's a super influential comic that all serious comic book dudes will tell you is probably the greatest comic book ever written. It's like the Akira (anime), Rush (the band), and Picasso of comic books.

If you read it, you probably won't enjoy it, but you'll feel like you should. You'll probably lie and tell your friends you like it so that they won't think less of you, and you'll probably read it a couple more times and it will have some kind of a lasting impression on you.

It's not like Spiderman, but you'll probably like Spiderman more.

But despite the fact that I'm very bitter about this sort of thing, I think that Watchmen will translate very well to the screen. :)

It looks too slick. The colours are too bright. It's meant to be more nitty gritty, seedy.

Yeah, ever since hearing about this movie and the comics it was based on at another movie board I post on (CHUD.com) I've decided I need to read this. I hope I enjoy it...freaking EVERYONE over that movie website is ga-ga over it.

Looks like the Vietnam stuff was shot 300 style.

As for the colors being too bright, um, the comic used a lot of yellow, green purple, and orange. It looks exactly like the comic.

If the colours looked exactly like the comic without regard to tone it'd look like the Dick Tracy movie. IMO the tone (comparable to the lighting in a movie) in Watchmen was more like this:
    <object width="380" height="300"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jcar5-dYCXE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jcar5-dYCXE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="380" height="300"></embed></object>

The trailer before The Dark Knight had the Smashing Pumpkins song from Batman & Robin. The End is the Beginning is the End. Great song and the only way I can look back on that crapfest with any fondness. I remember being a very credulous 14 and pissed off walking out of the theatre afterwards.

It's amazing that the music video was better than the actual movie!

I'll have to give this comic a look. I haven't read comics in forever but I think I missed a lot of quality for the sake of the big name titles. I saw both the Hellboys for the first time yesterday and might give that a try.
