Would be pretty surprised if Astros choose to add someone before the deadline. I’d certainly value Marisnick as a 13th positional player over Cutch. His defense, speed are the things you want when the time is right off the end of the bench. Carrying 13 though is going to be really tough on leaving off a dependable bullpen arm.

Should not close the door on Kyle Tucker when he comes up in September. It’s not out of the question that he catches fire and never looks back again.

Mccutchen would be nice. He's no longer in his prime but he would be enough of an upgrade and depth in case Springer who is playing bang up needs a day off and can platoon at LF as well. He can catch fire for two months. Plus... He will become a free agent after this season.

I would of thought so a couple of months ago but with Maldonado now on the team and Stassi's regression as a hitter I don't think he will be on the postseason roster. It is amazing how much he has regressed as a hitter. I had such high hopes for him early on. I guess he was just on a lucky streak.

    MY playoff roster thus far:

    1B Yuli
    2B Altuve
    3B Bregman
    SS Correa
    LF Marwin
    CF Springer
    RF Reddick
    C McCann
    DH White

    Bench Maldonado
    Bench Kemp
    Bench Gattis
    Bench Marisnick

    Starter 1 Verlander
    Starter 2 Keuchel
    Starter 3 Cole
    Starter 4 Morton

    Bullpen Osuna
    Bullpen Rondon
    Bullpen Pressly
    Bullpen McCullers
    Bullpen McHugh
    Bullpen Peacock
    Bullpen Devo
    Bullpen Sipp

bubble guys to me are Devo, Marisnick, Smith, Stassi... Will Harris has lost the confidence of the coaching staff now i'm sure.

Sorry, but what good does Gattis give us as a bench bat, especially if we make the WS? Unless he pinch hits for the DH (which is tough to imagine as he and White are both RHH), he's just a one-and-done in a given game since he has absolutely zero defensive value? Sorry, but if White is the main DH, there's really nothing to do with Gattis, he'd just waste a spot that could go to an extra bench bat/glove or bullpen arm.

Gattis would be more important in the WS than in the AL playoffs as pinch hitters for pitchers would be needed in NL parks.

But, the NL teams never carry a DH-only guy since there are so few interleague games in the RS, and double switches are common when PH'ing for a pitcher. Gattis can't be part of a double switch, but then again it may not even matter. Not every pitcher PH is a double switch, and even the NL teams just take out the PH after one at bat at times. Probably I think that because I'm in the camp who wants Gattis phased out and not back next year.

My only point is that with a healthy team and White continuing to produce, Gattis is more relevant in the WS than he would be in the AL playoffs. Regardless, I'd be surprised to see both Gattis and White on the playoff roster.

I think there’s room for both Gattis and White. Gattis makes for a fine pinch hitter and 3rd/emergency catcher. He’s been a DH only guy this season, but as recently as last year he was the backup catcher, so he’s not completely worthless as a position player. I think White bumps Stassi off the playoff roster, not Gattis.

Their postseason rosters could be a bloodbath.

If, as they did last year, carry 11 pitchers for the ALDS - and assuming Devo & McCullers are both healthy - that's 14 viable arms. I think, with Gattis available to spot-catch in an emergency, that Stassi may not be as valuable as a 12th arm.

Yeah, Gattis should be the emergency third catcher. Stassi, I hope everybody is aware of how terrible his numbers have been since June. He just got really lucky with a red hot May, that really inflated his season batting numbers. When McCann is back, Stassi is definitely the odd man out.

Per Jeff Luhnow, if the team plans to make any trades before September 1st, it will be for players that have already cleared waivers. Said any player placed on waivers now will most likely be claimed by other teams that get a higher priority.

Two questions if anyone can answer for me...

    1. How does the priority process work on claiming a player?

    2. Which players have already cleared?

I swear that Chandler guy reminds me of the actor on big bang theory.

In his article, he mentioned that Houston has been beaten on a few waiver claims. I wonder who...

Him, and maybe Harper, too (though VERY unlikely)? Gonna guess Bour as well. None of the three really had a chance to pass through the entire NL and be available for AL teams, though.
