This piece was very interesting. It documents cases of Republicans voting against their own ideas. I find it telling. <object width="420" height="245" id="msnbc5958af" classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=10,0,0,0"><param name="movie" value="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32545640"><param name="FlashVars" value="launch=35190724&width=420&height=245"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="wmode" value="opaque" /><embed name="msnbc5958af" src="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32545640" width="420" height="245" FlashVars="launch=35190724&width=420&height=245" allowscriptaccess="always" allowFullScreen="true" wmode="opaque" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash"></embed></object><p style="font-size:11px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #999; margin-top: 5px; background: transparent; text-align: center; width: 420px;">Visit msnbc.com for <a style="text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;" href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com">breaking news</a>, <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032507" style="text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;">world news</a>, and <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032072" style="text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;">news about the economy</a></p>
It's been happening for years. Witness Rove and Bush exploiting the religious right for their own gain. Using them to build rage within the base only to throw them aside after achieving what they want. The tea baggers are this election's religious right. The GOP is going to exploit their outrage for political gain, only to once again throw them aside.
Its not like Republicans are the only ones guilty of this. During his campaign Obama said that Mcain's plans of a spending freeze is not the way to go because it puts the burden equally on the poor and the rich, but in his State of the nation address he just announced plans for the very same spending freeze he railed against during his campaign.
Not really the same context....the spending freeze is just a political bone to toss to future deficit reduction plans and didn't affect anything that had already happened (furthermore, McCain wanted to do his LAST year, right at the height of the recession, incredibly dumb). Introducing and co-sponsoring legislation, only to vote against it - is quite different.
Please check out the video from 2:00 - 3:45. It really shows how silly the obstructionists are being. <object width="420" height="245" id="msnbc947d75"><param name="movie" value="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32545640" classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=10,0,0,0"><param name="FlashVars" value="launch=35209633&width=420&height=245"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="wmode" value="opaque" /><embed name="msnbc947d75" src="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32545640" width="420" height="245" FlashVars="launch=35209633&width=420&height=245" allowscriptaccess="always" allowFullScreen="true" wmode="opaque" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash"></embed></object><p style="font-size:11px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #999; margin-top: 5px; background: transparent; text-align: center; width: 420px;">Visit msnbc.com for <a style="text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;" href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com">breaking news</a>, <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032507" style="text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;">world news</a>, and <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032072" style="text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;">news about the economy</a></p> Wow. Looks like the party of basso and mojoman has some serious explaining to do. If mojo or basso don't want to address the issue, we can at least hope from a meaningless response in French from basso.
