http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/id/10602481/vince-wilfork-asks-new-england-patriots-release Anyone think theres a chance the Texans pick him up? Or will the price tag be too high? I guess we need to see what other cuts we make, if any, to see if he have cap room. Unfortunately, at 32 and coming off a major injury, Vince may not realize his worth may be substantially lower than what he thinks it should be.
No chance. They wanted to restructure his contract and he wasn't having it. He wants to get paid and we're not going to give anybody that much money right now.
I'd take him in a heart beat. NT might be the biggest need on defense, and he should still have a few good years left in the tank. Definitely need to make more cuts first. It would then be down to him wanting to player for BOB & Romeo Crenel, because we're unlikely to outbid the market. A front 7 including Watt, Cush, Wilfork, Mercilus, and maybe Clowney? Fuggedaboutit.
Being a 2-win terrible team hurts more than the money they can/can't offer. I guess it's possible someone offers him similar money to what he's getting now but seems doubtful.
Unless you're an absolute toilet organization with an awful reputation (Cleveland, Jacksonville, Oakland...), how many wins you had last year doesn't mean a hill of beans compared to how much money you can offer. There are RARE exceptions of guys who want to "win now", but they are few and far between.
JR is right...perhaps Romeo could entice him here...but the truth is hard for us to believe...Hard to attract any FA here to Houston following last year's disaster and this year's uncertainty with the QB position and how our coaching will turn out.
It's a gamble, but if he is indeed released, I hope we make a hard push for him. If he's healthy, we won't find a better NT to start next year.
He's still a top 3 NT in this league and would pay huge dividends next to Watt. No one w could run on us.
the thought of Watt/Clowney/Wilfork on our line is appealing http://espn.go.com/blog/houston-tex...ion?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
That would be beastly....in theory. The problem is that he's coming off of an Achilles injury so he probably won't ever be the same type of player.
