The Minnesota Vikings and St. Louis Rams have held conversations about a trade of Sam Bradford.

The Rams own the second overall pick and could select a quarterback to replace Bradford.

Johnny Manziel is of interest to the Rams.

Bradford has cap hits of $17.6 million in 2014 and $16.58 million in 2015.

For a team dealing for Bradford, all $50 million of his guaranteed money has already been paid.

I hope to God they wouldn't be trading their first round pick for him. That'd be a rip off, in my opinion. Also, the Rams would be loaded. The NFC West would be loaded.

Almost any deal for Sam Bradford would be doing the Rams a favor.

    You hope this happens.....

Then you get Cleveland who might jump to 1 to take Manziel.

Take their 4th and 27th! Do it!

THIS IS CRUDDY GM TIME OF THE YEAR. WHEN GMs LIE ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO.

Rick Spielman: No specific talks with Rams about Bradford

One of the many bits of chatter swirling about ahead of the draft had the Vikings and Rams discussing a possible trade involving Rams quarterback Sam Bradford and General Manager Rick Spielman was asked about it at a Tuesday press conference.

Spielman said, via Ben Goessling of ESPN.com, that he had not had any specific talks with the Rams about a deal for Bradford. The Rams maintain that they are committed to Bradford as their starting quarterback as well, although they have done their homework on some of the top quarterbacks in this year’s draft class.

Now comes the time for the obligatory draft week note that neither Spielman nor any other team employee is going to telegraph their intentions for the next few days. No specific talks on Tuesday can become very specific by Wednesday morning, which means that Spielman’s vow not to trade Ponder during Tuesday’s press conference should also be taken with a grain of salt.

Maybe less of a grain with that one, though. Spielman also had told reporters that he isn’t afraid to take a quarterback because of how things turned out with Ponder, which doesn’t say much for the quarterback’s trade value.

this is just the Rams trying to scare dumb Cleveland into trading up to #2 because the Browns are in love with Manziel

This is the last thing sports radio in STL needed.

One of the most overwrought debates on sports radio here is about whether or not Sam Bradford is the quarterback of the future. Think the David Carr debate after year three. He had shown enough to make his supporters think growth was still possible, but others were getting impatient.

The pro-Bradford crowd says that he has had little or no help and that when he has been healthy, he has been productive. The anti-Bradford crowd contents that he's too injury-prone and that even in situations where there is little other talent on the team, true franchise quarterbacks find a way to shine through.

Before, the Rams had solidly stood behind Sam, so it was a moot point. This kept the debate from really getting out of control.

But now, the floodgates have opened and it's all anyone wants to talk about. Add Johnny Manziel, the most polarizing NFL prospect possibly ever, and you really have a formula for a circus.

Manziel doesn't seem like a good fit for Fisher's generally conservative offensive philosophy.

Same problem. If you're taking a QB like this, you have to expect them to do lots of good, creative things and a lot of horrendous stupid things. Over time, you hope the mistakes to go down. But Fisher's whole philsophy - and why he tended to keep going back to Kerry Collins even when "good Vince" was around - is that he believes in stingy defense and controlled offense that doesn't make a lot of mistakes.

It seems like Fisher would get really frustrated with some Manziel plays because, no matter how good he is, he's going to have some highlight reel disasters.

Fisher had Steve McNair a long time and did pretty well with him, he helped refine Steve as a passer over time, something he probably thinks he can do again.

One of the other off-the-wall theories that some around STL are floating is that the team is feeling pressure to take a ready-made marquee star like Manziel for when they move to LA.

Agreed - but he basically reined McNair in and turned him into a good game manager instead of "air McNair". Those teams were built around great defense and Eddie George. That was also a different era where you could sit QBs for several years and develop them. McNair didn't throw for 20 TDs until his 7th year in the league - and never threw for more than 24.

I don't really know the internal evaluations, but it just seems like Bortles and Bridgewater are much more natural fits for Fisher. Whoever takes Manziel need to be committed to building an offense around his skills - sort of like what they did in Carolina with Cam Newton.

Crazy to think he has already made $50 Million and Russel Wilson and Andrew Luck haven't even made 10 combined yet
