Short version: They place life-sized cardboard cutouts of homeless animals in the kitchen, bedroom and living-room display areas of their store, so buyers can envision what the pet could look like in their house.

They have barcode scanners for more info on the pets.

Only thing it's missing is a discount on the furniture if you adopt the pet, too.

Think about the possibilities for this idea.

IKEA could expand this to people.

We could make cardboard cutouts of lonely-hearts cfnetters for some homemaker shopping at IKEA to take home with them.

We'd get them laying on a couch watching TV, collapsed on top of a bed, looking in a frig for something to eat, sitting at an home office table posting at cfnet. The possibilities are limitless..

    This is awesome.

Would be cool if they had like a little wetspot on an IKEA rug near the puppy ones.

Are the salmon in the checkout area also adoptable?

Good idea. They're going to slay off this campaign and it goes to a good cause. Pretty sweet.

I miss the horse cutouts though. You know, you picked the horse you liked as you shopped, then they'd have it ready in meatball form for you within the hour.

That would be realistic to make sure the IKEA buyer knows the risks.

But we should probably stop at that. This adorable, cardboard cutout of a dog in a lovely living space might scare too many people off, if we add poop on the pillow for realism.
