Have any one of you driven from Vegas to the Grand Canyon before? What are the best paths to take and how long is the drive? Any input will help.

I mapped in yahoo and it showed me the fastest way to get to the grand canyon is through I-515/I-40/ AZ-60 for 5 1/2 hours but it probably is a longer less scenic route. We only want to spend 1 full day doing the canyon and going back to vegas to gamble.

I appreciate your help and thanks in advance.

Man, I wish I can remember who started a Vegas thread this summer sometime, but rimrocker gave some detailed directions for a good Grand Canyon drive. Maybe someone else can remember.

Upon first glance, I thought this thread was going to be about San Andreas.

Maybe you can stop by the Hoover Dam and get some dam bait.

We bow to your greatness and are forever indebted to you :D.

Anyway, I've done it, but it was 9 years ago...so I don't remember. But I do remember that the flight over the Grand Canyon I took in a little Cessna was scary!

i did that trip on the Smeggy World Tour

just did the standard drive from Vegas to Hoover dam and then on the south rim of Grand Canyon.. not sure how long it took exactly but i do know we left in the morning in Vegas... stopped at Hoover for a while and then got to Grand Canyon by about 3 and had time to go on the bus tour thingy round it and see sunset and then head back out accom in that small town near grand canyon for dinner then brews and ball in a bar

we didn't drive back to vegas, we drove back to Los Angeles

    That's me.

I pretty much followed the instruction to the south Rim, stopping by Hoover Dam. I did it in less than 5 hours though, don't ask me how.

I did that drive a few years back in the summer. I think it took us about 6 hours...we got in Vegas at around 11:30 at night and it was 1:00 before we got out of town. We got to the Grand Canyon just in time for sunrise. Then we slept in our car for 5 hours. =)
