Seeing all the food threads that pop up here I was curious to know if anyone had any recommendations for restaurants that offer vegan options here in town. Also interested to know if there are other vegans or vegetarians here. NOT interested in discussing or debating the relative merits of a vegan diet (that's for D&D) here. So if you want to dis vegans (or meat eaters) please do it in another thread.
ever try pepper tree? It's really good...different. other than that, i usually stick to bombay sweets on hillcroft.
Khyber? Ugh. Udipi Cafe - all veg indian Himalaya - mixed indo/pak Pine Forest - veg/vegan chinese Quan Yin - Vegan vietnamese Loving Hut - Veg/vegan chinese Blue Nile - mixed Ethiopian Addisaba - Ethiopian again
I do indeed. I also eat honey. As I said in the OP this isn't a moral/ethical thread and my feelings about diet are complicated and not entirely rooted in those things. I am also not a pure person in any way with regard to ethics. Each of the ethics I hold are also contradicted by me in some fashion. But like I said, that's a conversation for the D&D, where I would not even be able to participate due to self-banning. To all else, thanks for all the suggestions and keep them coming. finalsbound: I also like Bombay Sweets. I ate there last week in fact. But I prefer Raja Sweets, just down the block.
I have, on several occasions, because so many of my friends love it, but I've just never managed to enjoy a meal there. My loss.
Here are some I've never tried. Thanks! Udipi is good. I ventured way the hell out to Quan Yin once and had a great meal, but the distance has kept me from going back. I hope I'll manage to soon. And I will check out these other places too. Particularly interested in checking out Himalaya.
Pepper Tree, which is located on Richmond, is my favorite vegetarian restaurant in Houston. On weekends they have a buffet, which is very good. Madras Pavilion, on Kirby, has been around for years and is pretty good. There is also Loving Hut, which is a vegan chain restaurant. Every vegetarian restaurant in Houston is going to be either Chinese or Indian.
Never tried Dimassi's. Will give it a look. Thanks. Jenni's is very good. Meeting a friend there Monday. Hobbit and Hungry's are, I think pretty good for vegetarians but lousy for vegans. The few times I've tried Hungry's they've been out of their one vegan option and the vegan options at Hobbit are very bland. I used to enjoy it very much though before I went from veg to vegan.
I like Madras too. Never tried Loving Hut. There are a lot of places with vegan options locally that are not Chinese or Indian though. Azteca, a Mexican place, has a dedicated vegan menu, though it's not all that good. Field of Greens is vegan American food. And there are lots of Vietnamese options. There are others as well.
Himalaya has some vegetarian options, but that restaurant is about the meat dishes. Best part is how the owner/chef has his "office" in the dining area.
