See what happens when u take gilbert out. Man... this is the offense im talking about. Brown and Monroe beasting.
Ash looks like the future, I'd just sit McCoy and let him go but whatever. Hopefully Gilbert is planning for life after football by now.
Statistically, it does more often than not. http://www.advancednflstats.com/2009/09/4th-down-study-part-1.html
I'm satisfied with the 1 pt win. We changed QB's (hopefully)... this is just going to make thing a lot better. UCLA next week.. I'm really looking forward to Ash and McCoy next week. Shipley did great too!
Hook 'em! Great confidence-building W for this team, and I'm ecstatic that Mack finally found the courage to pull the plug on the INT machine known as Gilbert. McCoy & Ash were solid, and Shipley's the TRUTH! Loved seeing Mack get jacked up on the sidelines, and the defense played lights out in the 2nd half. Looking forward to returning to the "House that Vince Young Built" next weekend...
We finally have a running back. WE FINALLY HAVE A RUNNING BACK! Shipley is the real deal. This kid has hands like his brother (no homo). I really think our defense is just starting to show what it can do this year. The second half they were lights out!
BYU, just like last week, showed their true colors. A team that everyone talks up but just can't move the chains. Our bread-and-butter are play action passes behind the line of scrimmage. No QB confidence to throw down-field and no running game. Heaps now with 2 TDs and 3 INTs on the season, if I remember right. I have no idea why everyone is so high on Jake Heaps. And this coming from a current BYU student. Congrats on the win, Texas, but we served it up on a platter. Hopefully both teams can build on a mediocre game.
So irritated at the crowd for going nuts over McCoy. He showed very little. He had some bad throws, and Shipley made some great plays for him. I don't think he's clearly better than Gilbert by any means.. they just ran the ball more and were effective. Now Shipley on the other hand has looked great 2 weeks in a row. If he can keep this up, I'll be really excited about his future. Love the Boise St play, going with a reverse WR pass on what would be a running play for 99.9% of teams
McCoy: 7/8, 57 yards Ash: 2/3, 23 yards Gilbert: 2/8, 8 yards, 2 INTs Against the same defenses with the same personnel, those two moved the ball fairly consistently. Gilbert's drives were constant 3 and outs or INTs. He led the nation in INTs last year, so this wasn't some kind of fluke. He's never had a completion percentage anything like McCoy+Ash combined for today. Yes, the running game was better, but Ash was a great lead blocker on several of those runs and provided a legitimate second running option that people had to guard against. McCoy being able to complete passes consistently takes a bit of pressure off the running game as well. McCoy and Ash have a long way to go - but this was their first ever real game. They are already both light years ahead of Gilbert, who's played about 14 games now. McCoy took chances, but he put the ball where his receivers could go make a big play and they did it. Gilbert doesn't do that for the most part - he puts the ball in a position where his receivers are standing still or where the opposing team has the opportunity to make a play on the ball.
Texas' D is for real. Manny Diaz is the man. McCoy and Ash looked great and Malcolm Brown continues to shine. Give this guy 20 carries a game for ****'s sake.
