This came out last month, but not many people have been talking about it. USA Swimming actively covered up sexual abuse of children. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/usa-swimming-sexual-abuse_us_5a8ad81fe4b004fc3194c4b2
Where does the "USA" part come in? Meaning, is there some kind of government relationship here? I assume funding? They should just shut it down completely.... But what about all those kids dedicating their lives to swimming and their dreams?!?!?! You can still swim, lol. I don't understand why people make these huge deals every 2/4 years about sports they don't care about the other 200 weeks in between...
if you don't read the article here's a small clip. Since 1997, at least 590 alleged victims of sexual abuse have been identified in the USA Swimming world. At least 252 coaches and officials have been arrested, charged or disciplined by USA Swimming for sexual assault or sexual misconduct against athletes under the age of 18. In four of the past six years, “at least 20 swim coaches have been arrested, charged or convicted for sex crimes ranging from rape, sexually assaulting a 3-year-old and 8-year-old, statutory rape, child p*rnography to secretly videotaping underage swimmers in locker-rooms,” the report notes.
That's terrible. My daughter's a good gymnast and she loves doing it, but these scandals make it very hard for me to trust her club.
