I am not against getting out of that **** hole, but this is going to be south Vietnam part II. The question is what to do if say another terrorist organization takes root there again.
I thought we didn't negotiate with terrorists. I seem to recall Obama getting a lot of backlash for brokering a deal with Iran.
We went in to get Bin Ladin not to nation build for a country that doesn't want us there in the first place. If they're happy living in the 18th century so be it.
As long as they don't bother this country(hosting terrorists that come here), there is really no reason to force them to live like modern civilized people if they are not willing. If they want to live like the rest of the world, they will, otherwise, peace.

Good. Lets leave. There will never be an ideal time or scenario for leaving. It’s impossible to state build in Afghanistan. Let them have it and assert yourself on a limited basis there in the future if necessary.

If it happens, it will be because of the people in that country supports them and want to live that life style. Otherwise, how can the Afghanistan government with the support from the United States, not be able to defeat a rebel group with little international support? We are not the world police, and we should not be.
Well we were offered better deals by the Taliban in our first year ago after our main success that we drove Bin Laden into hiding. Dubya, Cheney, Rumsfeld and the gang turned those deals down. Obama likewise did not have the stones to end the war under his watch as he was worried about the political ramifications of what cannot be disguised as much more than a slow defeat. Can it really be true that crazy Trump has done it? On Democracy Now they argue that since we have only 12,000 troops there and 26,000 contractors there, backed up by air power we might just be continuing the war/occupation in another fashion.
That’s the unfortunate thing. The Taliban got what they want, the Afghan gov did not get much of anything. It’s a “peace” deal for the US but likely a disaster for the afghan gov. They were not part of this deal. Perhaps precisely because the Taliban knew the US want nothing more than to get out, they don’t have to concede anything. No, we need to get out of there (however, perhaps not completely) but couldn’t we be part of a 3 way negotiation to strengthen the Afghan gov hand or at least include some of what the Afghan gov might wanted as part of the deal to give them a higher chance to be successful?
they are committed to forever conflict and massive death... we can’t sustain that I disagree it’s what the people want. They dont have a choice. Pew in 2014 showed the mass majority of Afghan are much more progressive than the taliban.
If the vast majority of the people are not for Taliban, why don't they rise up and fight for the government?
