Asik is fascinating.....he's already averaging 10pts...with only a small improvement he will easily go 20pts per night...one of the best centers in the league...
Since the first two years of his NBA career was spent being the Defensive Specialist for the Bulls second unit, it will take him some time to get his offense going. I believe he will improve as the season rolls along.
No way bro. Asik will never be a 20 ppg scored and that is okay. As long as he gets better at finishing at the rim and keeps being a beast on the defensive end, that's all we will need. I really hope we get a legit 4 at some point, whether one of our rookies pan out or we sign him.
this. Going from 10pts/game to 20 is a HUGE leap. We should be ecstatic with a double double average..around 10-12 pts and 12-15 rbds with 2 blocks should be very much within the realm of possibility..he is doing that basically now. The key is finding a scoring/rebounding 4 to complement him. I say we give Jones/D Mo and Smith a shot first then look to trade/free agency. Ppat is best coming off the bench
The ONLY player i am impressed overall for all the games that we played so far, Osik stand out as being very consistent. Other players even including Lin and Harden have not been consistent. Osik does the hard work inside and making it tough to score inside....that's the difference right there and giving the Rockets chance to win some of the games.
Couldn't agree more. Chuck was a nightmare on offense for a very long time, but finally improved, improved a lot. Heck, even his FT's became acceptable. It was his intelligence and dedication to improving his game that made him succeed. Asik looks to be cut from the same cloth. He's gotten his chance and is making the most of it. I think our hole in the middle has finally been filled.
Omer Asik is the best defender in the league easily. He does an excellent job preventing both teams from making baskets in the paint. It's called a "two-way defender."
Haha, I remember Chuck's atrocious hitch on his free throw. I also remember him taking a step just to hit it too.
Chuck was actually doing OK offensively when he first showed up-- finished around the basket and even made a reasonable % of FTs. For some reason, he lost confidence in his offense in 08/09. His hitch on the FTs got worse, he was making something like 37% of them, and his layup % got worse, too, partly due to trying to avoid getting fouls and thus rushing his shots. I remember hearing that he worked really hard in the summer of 09, when Yao went down and he knew he needed to step into a ton more minutes. Got better all around, regained confidence. Ihope Asik will also figure out how to be effective on the offensive end.
It's a bit strange to read "Asik" and "hero" in the same sentence. First, because he is almost strictly a one way player. Second because the team is struggling. Perhaps the thread title will be accurate in the future.

1Cmon it's not such a huge leap as it sounds, he is rapidly progressing now and it's not a matter of developing skills that he doesn't posses he's already got it just need more confidence and routine... 2 as soon as he get used to playing offensively we'll got 20 from him and it will comea as easy as breathing... 3 and that's when Lin and Harden will explode even more and it means more easy dunks and layups for Omar... So there's no way 20pts is beyond his reach...I expect him to reach that very soon under condition that he is given as many balls and shooting opportunities as he used to in last 3 games...
it's not always the case though....on occasions he displays a perfectly soft hand and nice confident ball handling...it's a sure sign he'll improve as he progress to be actively involved in the offense...
