Maybe to get the shock of it out of the way early. I dunno, either that or to motivate the guys behind him on the depth chart to step up their game and boot him out.
Could this mean Newton has improved tremendously? Some thinks he will be a pro bowler. All speculation but hey we shall see.
And as far as I know he hasn't even practiced yet. He can't push Newton because he hasn't been on the field.
Brennan Williams had mico-fracture knee surgery. For a 300 lb man whose career forces him to put his knees under extreme pressure, his prognosis is not good.
That's fair, and reason for concern, but not all microfracture surgeries are created equal. I've heard some reports saying he has a good chance to make a full recovery.
IIRC, Derek Newton did not play LT last year or any year for the Texans. Duane Brown was the Texans's starting LT last year.
Have to throw a scare into the camp - what if Newton gets hurt early in the season - then what? Sign Winston up NOW.
Winston isn't a good player anymore though, he might not even be capable of beating out Newton sadly enough.
I believe he publicly declared himself good to go around draft time. Whether that was youthful, hopeful overconfidence on his part just to stay on the team remains to be seen.
So it would seem. It might make sense to have a half decent backup just the same - whether it's Winston or someone else doesn't matter at this point - the backups currently on the roster do not inspire confidence.
That's true, though I suppose we should entertain the possibility that he's improved. I don't expect it, but I'm hoping that him being the only weak link on the line won't be killer especially since we can give him help with the big blocking TE we drafted.
I'm hoping OB has someone that will be released in mind. If Newton goes down, you think our line sucks now, then just wait.
That's just one spot though. Even if Newton goes down it would still just be one spot. Now if Duane Brown goes down.....Yikes.
