I wonder if getting closer to Russia wouldn't be such a bad thing with China where it is... better to keep them closer rather than try to keep spending money to have a military that can "beat" both of them at once. I DOUBT that we'd get much use out of Russia though.

It's not a good idea to get close to authoritarian brutal regimes that make a practice of attacking and trying to subvert our democracy.

It’s bizarre to even have to say such a thing to someone with any knowledge of history. There are so many reasons not to delude one’s self about Russia.

Putin was a KGB intelligence officer for 16 years for the Soviet Union, until the empire fell at the end of 1991, specializing in foreign intelligence.

Putin entered politics in Leningrad, which soon returned to its former name, St Petersburg, immediately after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

It is Putin’s ardent desire to return Russia to its “former glory” as an empire and world power. This is well documented with many quotes from the man himself. He considers the fall of the Soviet Union and the loss of Russia’s empire a travesty.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, seizing by force the Ukrainian Crimea Peninsula, was the first forcible annexation of part of a European country since 1945.

A sham “referendum” was held in Crimea shortly after the invasion. Putin claimed something like 98% approval for his actions there, which is completely absurd.

Using the same tactics Russia had used seizing Crimea, regular Army troops with their insignia removed and under the command of Russian military officers, Russia invaded eastern Ukraine. They created, armed, and supported with heavy weapons manned by Russian forces a “separatist” army that is still fighting Ukraine’s military. Russia claims that the “separatists” use captured Ukrainian heavy weapons, which is demonstrably false. Most of the heavy weapons are Russian and were not in the inventory of Ukraine’s military at the time of Russia’s invasion.

A Russian anti-air missile, again, not in Ukraine’s inventory, in 2014 was used to shoot down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 from Amsterdam, killing nearly 300 civilians, a large number of them Dutch. A long and thorough investigation by the Dutch government put full blame on Russia for the atrocity. The anti-air battery was transported from Russia to occupied Ukraine the day of the attack, returning after it, minus 1 missile. This has been confirmed by US and NATO surveillance satellites, as well as other assets.

I could go on, but I think this is enough, and I left out a hell of a lot. In my opinion, the sanctions we have on Russia should be more severe than they are, and we should dramatically increase our military aid to Ukraine. Mr trump’s bizarre love affair with Putin is inexplicable. His actions since taking office have, time and again, been to benefit Russia and undermine the United States, NATO, the European Union, and other friends and allies of our country. “Getting closer” to Russia is the last thing we should do. I haven’t even gotten into Russia’s interference in the 2016 elections here, in the Brexit vote, and in other European elections, all well documented by numerous US and European intelligence agencies. As it is, the only thing preventing trump from embracing Putin and Russia more than he has is the United States Congress.

It's very weird how the right is jumping behind Russia. Russia doesn't have our interest in mind, they ultimately want to see our economy tank and our country erupt into civil war. I guess this is what the far right wants - a chance to purge the country of non-white people. Russia could definitely help with that.

So true. We could take pages to list reporters who Putin doesn't like that he's had killed along with politicians who he's killed and imprisoned. The families of these folks were also killed as well as innocents. Putin has been found to have committed acts of espionage against our Democracy and is known to want to sow discord, chaos, and division in our system.

Yet Republican politicians are not only okay with that, they help.

When will voters stop enabling this?

They are sheep - follow whatever propaganda Fox News tells them to, and Fox doesn't tell the truth, so they are ignorant of that as well.

Sad state of affairs really, when up to 20% of the people in the USA are brainwashed and in Putin's pocket.

None of it makes sense until you look at the admiration from this angle

Then it all comes into place quite clearly

I think Trump is compromised, he was bailed out by Russian money (which isn't far separated from Putin who is essentially a mob boss) and he owes them a lot of debt to say the least. It is not surprising that our foreign policy is a dream policy for Russia.

    That's funny.

The left has been shouting impeachment since day one, creating a political clutsterphuck while Putin laughs his ass off. They created a story about Russian collusion and tried to fabricate a case. And now the two leading candidates they put forth are socialists, while the real leaders of their party are a group of young, ignorant radicals that should scare the **** out of everyone. Talk about discord and chaos? Look in the mirror.

I guess because of my age, my profession, demographic and location that 90% of the people I know are conservatives. The folks I know and talk to that are left leaning are typically people who are alienated by Trump's belligerence or very young in their careers. And I can only think of 2 people who would even entertain the idea of socialism. Both are young and have no sense of history. The Cold War was something they've heard about but don't understand and both actually argue that Russia is not a communist country...lol.

You are right though. All of this division is exactly what Putin wants. And he really hasn't had to do anything but sit back and watch.

Didn't Hillary make similar claims recently? Are we now all Russian sympathizers?

This post shows the problem with this country. You have folks like you who just buy into propaganda. "Created a story about Russian collusion and tried to fabricate a case" - it was Republicans who created the case and broke the story, not the left.

So long as you live in this world where you are brainwashed to believe lies, you are going to scratch your head when things go all wrong and can't find a ways to blame the boogiemen liberals you so hate.

stop publicizing your lack of understanding of what socialists means.

if ur truly against socialists, u need to be slamming Trump's socialist policies.

trade war is socialism 101; Trump's new welfare payments to farmers (hurt by the trade war) have also been textbook eg of socialism.

u'd be less baffled if you stop using terms you don't understand

GPS Fusion - paid for by the DNC

I'm not brainwashed by any means. You just posted earlier that Trump is compromised. Any hard facts to back that up or is that your personal narrative on how the story ends?

When top Russian intelligence official Fiona Hill says that Russia was responsible for the election tampering and that blaming Ukraine is only aiding Russia, is that fabricated too? Are you a Deep State person?

Fusion GPS was originally hired by Republicans to do opposition research on Trump, and it was the Senate Intelligence Committee - led by republicans - that asserted Russia interfered with our elections.

It should also be noted that the FBI began its investigation before the Steele Dossier was released.

So most of what you posted isn't based in fact.
    1. Dems didn't create a story about Russian collusion. Trump's campaign sought help from the Russians and the FBI caught them. That isn't Dems creating anything. Guess again.
    2. Trump is currently practicing socialism giving our tax dollars to Farmers, not as part of a govt. contract for goods and services, but because of his Trade War which would devastate them and force even more of them into bankruptcy.
    3. Only one side is knowingly spreading Russian propaganda.

Don't fall or scare tactics, we are already a socialist democracy......
