That's a bit telling but also deliberate.

They're equals but she knows her role.

Pretty much sums up this culture war.

"The left" is some international entity to you? "The left" spans the United States, Germany, and where else? Is "the left" an international organization or just a characteristic inherent to humans, like dark skin?

I still believe, for the most part, that Ivanka is the sanest one of the bunch and is sincere in her support of women's and family issues I also think it is a bit unrealistic to not expect that there will be people that will press her on questions about the issues and moreso her father's history and current positions.

This also puts more light on how disliked Trump is internationally. I know the talking point is "America First" but is it any surprise Trump doesn't venture out of the United States (when previous Presidents made international trips at this point in their presidency).

The thing I see wrong about it is the uneven access he grants people based on gender. If his policy was that he wouldn't dine with anyone alone, man or woman, I really wouldn't have a complaint. As it is though, Nikki Haley can't have a private audience with him but Sam Brownback can. Maybe it doesn't even matter in real influence, but at the same time he's projecting an image of propriety, he's also projecting an image of sexism. Otherwise, I don't have a problem with it.

In my office building, we are not aloud to be alone in our office with the doors closed with a member of the opposite sex, unless there are other people in the room with us. It's not sexist, it's good policy. It's harder to be accused of sexual harassment when there are witnesses around, and its harder to be accused of having an improper relationship if you are never alone with someone of the opposite sex.

I wouldn't have a problem with a woman who has the same policy as Pence (and I'm sure there are plenty that do), so I don't have a problem with Pence having this policy. It's actually a very respectful gesture towards his wife. Don't get me wrong, I can't stand Pence, but I think this is a case of people looking for something to complain about.

I have a coworker (female) who once gave me a ride home from work. She made me sit in the back of her car because I am married - she said it was her way of respecting my wife. I was not offending by it..I understand it. Is it something I would've done? No, but I'm not going to belittle her for making me sit in the back.

    Nathaniel Hawthorne says hi!

Seriously, it just strikes me as completely retrograde. Can gay people close doors and get it on at your company? An open door policy is good, and I follow that at my work, but it's for all people, all ages, all everything. To me, that's the only way it makes sense.

Not being able to have a meal with a woman who is not your wife feels like something from the era of chastity belts. Look out for thems crafty womens and their wily ways!

My office has open layout for desks and all our meeting rooms have glass walls. I get your company policy, especially if the office isn't laid out like mine. A lot of schools and churches have done similar because of the sex abuse scandals. It's good policy. And, it's policy that relies on leaders to model the behavior. So Pence doing it is great and all. But, this opposite sex stuff is outdated. Assuming everyone will assume you're heterosexual is outdated. How do I know DFWRocket won't sexually harass his male colleague? How do I know Pence won't sexually harass Sam Brownback? I don't. How does Pence's wife know he won't have a gay affair with Sam Brownback? If he were so inclined, he probably wouldn't say so. Besides, whose benefit is this really for? Is it just to give his wife comfort? Is it to protect his own reputation? Is it to create a culture of propriety to discourage misbehavior in the whole organization? His wife might feel pretty confident about Pence's intentions toward Sam Brownback, but his reputation is still at risk. And, it doesn't do anything to promote transparency to discourage male staffers from having affairs with Sam Brownback. So, I don't really have a problem with the policy. I just don't think he goes far enough.

How would you sitting in the front seat be disrespectful to your wife?

This all sounds like backwards religious beliefs about men being tempted by women and their forbidden fruit. It's really sad.
