It's value in stock not assets. If anything, savvy businessmen would buy in a momentary chance.

If Trump was black you'd be bagging on him for causing a company to lose a billion overnight. I've never seen you bend over backwards so much for someone with so many character flaws and poor decision making, white or otherwise. BTW will you be investing into Carrier as a savvy businessman now since it's such a good time to buy stock from them?

No I wouldn't. It's stock value, not assets. This happens fairly regularly - something scares people off, stock falls. It's part of the game and smart people would be able to tell whether or not companies lose of face or real value. If Trump does it too often, that would devalue his shots and I reckon stock falls wouldn't happen anymore. That's how it works.

    Uh oh, Spaghetti-O!

Even if you look at it from Obama's perspective, 800,000 still is not many manufacturing jobs. And to claim they were lost due to automation in a foreign country is just plain disingenuous and insincere.

Man the Bush Jr guy and his deregulation sure caused a lot of jobs to disappear per your article. A caution for this upcoming administration.

Bush The Lesser wasn't too bright - the current head of the upcoming administration agrees on that much.

Some olive branch. By ClutchFans logic, this move won't create any jobs - because manufacturing jobs have been lost to robots and automation.

I wish Trump got off his dead ass 8 years ago and instead of wasting time looking for a birth certificate created more jobs!

Lol.... Carrier is automating some of those jobs "saved". Not sure why you think automation isn't displacing a lot of jobs.

Lastly, this wasn't done because of Trump. They gave Trump nod of course, but there have been zero specifics about what they plan to do. This decision was based on the trends for smaller, more efficient vehicles.

Kudos to the Trump administration though, I am sure they will know how to spin this.

While I think Trump is a complete embarrassment to our country. I have to give Trump some credit for making some corporations have second thoughts about outsourcing jobs. His threats and shaming seems to have worked to some small degree.

Possibly, will be hard to tell. Trump will use the bully pulpit better than those recently. However, these type of decisions are almost always made in advanced.

Gee, I wonder how people in east Texas voted. Thanks, Obama.

Nah broh, they are playing him. Corporations can now threaten to leave to get a good deal on taxes. Trump didn't save any jobs with Carrier - they are still opening the plant - they were negotiating with Pence for a year before Trump was involved. Softbank was already planning to invest the money, but by letting Trump take credit, they will get some corporate welfare.

Trump is selling out American tax revenue for PR purposes.

By the way, if you really wanted to spur investment - you would make corporate taxes progressive with the lowest bracket starting at 0, and increase personal taxes for the rich to a higher rate. Then you would make short term capital gains progressive as well, but make long-term capital gains tax flat and lower. You also allow companies to write off current year capital investments and labor cost increases. This would incentivize companies to invest and grow rather than play for short term profit pressures, and for shareholders to prefer investing versus realizing profits and pulling money out of the market.

I wasn't talking about Carrier, I was talking about Ford.
Corporate welfare is nothing new. State and local gov't do it all the time. Corporations and even sports teams get all type welfare by threatening to leave town, the state, or the country.

    ?????????????
Based on the article it sounded like the state didn't cough up the incentives to bribe Carrier to stay put. Isn't that more of Rick Perry's jurisdiction? Since when did it become a good thing to start offering subsidies left & right whenever a company threaten to move?

Also according to the article, after Carrier moved to Mexico some of the people that lost their jobs got new ones when another air conditioner company moved into town and the town diversified it's economy and is now more depended on the service, healthcare & high education jobs.

Ford didn't do anything differently based on what Trump said. Their plan all along was to move the production of one type of vehicle to mexico and replace the current US plant with another vehicle. That's exactly what they did. Not sure what you are talking about.

Did Ford cancel plans to build a new plant in Mexico or not?

Ford cancelled their plans of building a new plant in Mexico and decided to move the Fusion production to their existing Mexican plant. Sounds like Ford are now more pessimistic about their sales in the future

Small car production is still going to Mexico as pointed out. The 700 jobs were going to happen anyway as they had to be done to support existing vehicle production in Detroit. This is all a way for Ford to get favors from Trump with appearances.

Next up is giving Trump credit for the moon rising.
